Yesterday was one of those days as a cyclist you dream about. No wind. Perfect trail conditions and even better scenery. When I set out yesterday I had to go to my nieces birthday party, then I was free. As I went out after the party I knew I had to go to a certain spot on the chautauqua valley trail. This spot has special meaning. It was the spot I rode to the first ride after my friend Wade was killed while riding his bike. The old rickety bridge on the south skunk river. I don’t ride this trail often, but when I do. I’m always thankful for it. I never realized until during my ride yesterday I ride over both the north and south skunk rivers on my rides on various trails in central Iowa. Yesterday I had to be aware that it had rained recently and the trail was greasy, and also leaves are starting to fall as well. Went out for some miles today. Hoping they would be dry. Not so fast. I got 43 miles in and the skies opened up. The original intention was a century but I didn’t bring the right gear for that. So I settled for 57.5 miles. The last 16 were wet miles. Why? So thankful and blessed to have ridden my bike today. Not only by myself but with really AWESOME friends that love to encourage each other but also push each other to make each and everyone faster. But today was so much more than just ANOTHER ride. Today was my 5000 mile of the YEAR. To think I would have 5000 miles by the fourth of September I would’ve said not likely. When I set out this season the theme was if I’m not smiling I’m not having fun. There’s NO point in riding. Well as most of you know. I did a vast majority of my miles in groups like tonight. Not only that though. I rode on behalf of youth ministry in Thailand 🇹🇭 Poland 🇵🇱 and India 🇮🇳 what a season I’ve had. And I still have four more month. I’m truly blessed and thankful for everyone who has joined me. Whether it’s dragging @abemill out of bed at 6am and doing a fast 30 miles talking life and spiritual walks. Or riding in Florida with @endscycling. How about the ride where I got DROPPED by @tri4life20 AFTER I bragged about going to a @switchfoot concert. My two favorite rides though were @ragbrai century day where I did NOT sleep the night before and @leah.r.hardin prayed Justin and I off as we started the last 70 miles of the day. The hardest ride was the century on #MNBR2019 with hills and headwinds from Spooner Wisconsin to Stillwater Minnesota. While wearing my #HydrocephalusAwareness jersey. @allpraisejc pulled me that day! I’m so thankful for that guy. To say this has been a year of EPIC riding would be THE understatement of ALL understatements. I am TRULY grateful and blessed to be able to ride my bike for the furthering of GLOBAL YOUTH MINISTRY through @endscycling. To think THREE years ago I’d be going in to ministry, I would’ve said “NO!” And now. I’m ALL IN!
