Due to the project being to reinterpret the script, of the Tempest into a design, for a theatre. We have been learning several new skills that will prepare us for the future like ground drawings. A ground drawing is a scale drawing of a building or space. Usually for a designer, in theatre, they would draw to a 1:25 scale which this drawing is. I found drawing the Ground plan slightly complicated to get my head around, this new technique but I really enjoyed it with it reminding me of archaeology and architecture.
In the drawing, I learnt how to depict; the centre line and a break line, and how it is used effectively within a scale drawing. what I also found out was that break lines are straight lines with points in the middle of them depicting the space which should be, but can’t be fit on, due to the lack of space on the paper. It is an easy way of drawing space which won’t be used in our designs whilst giving a sense of the width or diameter of the place.
The final thing I learnt about during this drawing session was the little description box at the bottom which helps file the drawings and make it easier to understand the details comprised within the drawing, when a director or producer is looking at them. The box captures the details of; the venue, drawing title, the production, who drew it, the drawing number, scale and when it was drawn.
