Great Covers.
Dwight Yoakam - Train In Vain (The Clash).
What makes a great cover? Hard to describe, but easy to spot when you hear it. A delicate combination of respect for the original but with something added. Sometimes it could be tiny details, sometimes a whole new perspective. I hate lazy covers, the tv-competition kind when a moderately talented artist makes a dutiful, boring and ultimately unnecessary version of a famous song. Equally bad are those that try too hard and end up with something that has lost everything that was interesting and great about the original.
Here are some examples of covers, in very different genres, that hit the mark perfectly. ย
