nonevernoforever replied to your link: āMASTERing YOUR own BODYā:
But doesnāt work for actual trauma. Lack of social support can be a trauma, and in that case yes. All other- top 3 being domestic violence, rape, and child molestation, followed by policing and military action (last I sourced a few years ago) - these traumas arenāt dealt with in your fictional society. And frankly it wouldnāt solve the social problems we face.
okay⦠iām confused. i was not posing a fictional society. apologies if i was unclear.Ā
i appreciate this article and the concepts discussed and, based on my own and otherās experiences, these ideas are connected to with healing practices
i am not suggesting that our current society is equipped to deal with trauma, or that society itself is not traumatizing⦠i was suggesting that by recognizing that effective, supportive social engagement cannot and will not happen if people are traumatized (flight, fight, frozen), maybe we can build community to counter that experience.Ā
i think the title : Mastering your own body⦠is also confusing.
the idea, for me, behind understanding the nervous system response to stress and the factors that turn stress over into trauma⦠is not that you can consciously control your body or will your body out of the experienceā¦
the idea is not to blame or judge or place responsibility on the traumatized individual in anyway. but rather to support, nurture, care for the individual in any way that lets them express themselves naturally - b/c it is this organic, natural response they need to heal.Ā
so, for me itās the other way around. your body (and you) will naturally, organically be able to successfully cope with stress and avoid it turning into trauma if you/your body are not thwarted/caged/chained by damaging context (setting & social conditions)
hthrloooo replied to your post: ābecause of the nature (of the beast) and the unique cross-section thatā¦ā:
Iāve been thinking about this stuff, too, especially lately. It seems harder for me to let it go when it happens (which Iām working on).
i understand totally⦠itās nice when it no longer matters. when it doesnāt have to mean anything ā not anything important about you or even so much about the person who unfollowed
there was a time when i needed to cope with being at odds by either trying to fix myself or by judging the other person wrong/off somehow
more and more, as i heal⦠i donāt really feel so much (anger/hurt) like people who donāt like me are bad or wrong or need adjusting, nor do i feel i need adjusting so much, nor do i have a need to declare those people ālosersā or otherwise⦠less.Ā
instead i feel really comfortable just deciding who i do and donāt want to surround myself with and leaving it at that. accepting that there are valid positions that i just donāt want to be involved with or that iām not at all interested in and being fine with the possibility that those are good poisitions even so - just not my thing - that feels really free. also - honest.Ā
because the same way no else really knows all about me, i canāt really know what is motivating anyone else. so itās not for me to say if someone is absolutely good/bad/indifferent - it is only for me to decide what and who i want to be close with. it becomes a matter of ā who I want close and involved in my practice*
itās also a matter of how i want to spend my time⦠to i want to spend it all analytically, always comparing what i think is happening with what i think should happen? or do i want to fully sink into the experience and be curious about all the sensations and feels it brings.Ā
it is a lot. and it is good to think about. AND most fascinating of all is how caught up it all is with the practice of judging ourselves :}Ā
