#grapes!

My grapes have actually managed to achieve grapehood this year. The picture on the left shows the flowers shortly after fertilization, and last year they didn't get much bigger than that -- and they definitely never got any less green. This year they have color and flavor, although they're still pretty small -- the grapes on the right are about the size of your fingertip, nothing like the monsters in the supermarket. But to their credit, they have far more flavor than any store-bought grape I recall having. I hope their developmental leap forward wasn't caused by either our extremely dry spring & summer or our very hot summer temperatures, because those aren't conditions I expect to see a lot of in the immediate future. But perhaps the distant future, consoling myself in desertified Scotland with my delicious climate-change-accelerated grapes.
