Yeah, so this is gonna suck. That blue dot is Baguio, where we live. The huge multicolored mass about the size of our entire island of Luzon is the incoming supertyphoon. Supposed to hit us tomorrow, Sunday, November 1st. If I drop offline for a bit, this will be why. We're in a stable concrete building in a relatively sheltered location, so we'll likely be okay, but may lose power for a while--maybe a few days. Guess we'll see what 145 mph winds do to the local infrastructure.

Looks like the worst is going to miss us! Rain and wind are supposed to start hitting in a minute or two minutes. I feel for the people in the direct path, but considering that this is supposedly the worst typhoon in years, I can't help but be relieved that we're only supposed to catch the outskirts. I mean, South of Manila is supposed to get 145 mph+ winds if I understand correctly, whereas we're probably looking at "only" about 50 mph.
So yeah. If we go silent except for queued posts, don't worry; @thesurestthing and I may lose power, but we're on the middle floor of a three story concrete building set into the side of a hill with excellent drainage drainage through the center of the property (we're renting in a friend's family compound) and surrounded by higher land and buildings to break the wind, all of which are far enough away to not be a danger even if they were to fall. We're also in a pretty secure position to avoid landslides like the ones that killed some folks here in town during Ompong, so we should be safe.
