a dark-haired woman now lies on the ground, entirely lifeless, beautiful locks soaked in a pool of her own blood. how unfortunate.

“sat, is she awake?” shoko asks, her gaze attentively on the menacing glob of red that sits on the desk. in turn, satoru answers, “she is, no bleeding… just a little disoriented.”

shoko nods. “koronda!” its eyes glow an eerie shade of red as the players freeze. another civilian is shot, but satoru covers your eyes before you could even begin to conceptualize who it may be. “it’s not one of us, pretty girl, eyes on me,” he whispers, and you tremble in his hold. “why are you holding me down…?” you question your friend.

“daruma san ga…”

“I’ll explain later,” he says. “koro—” before the nightmare doll finishes, nanami taps its shell from behind. in an instant, the game stops and you’re all transported into a break room of some sort. however, not all of your friends are here.

from what you can tell, the survivor’s were split into teams of four. with you being stuck in an enclosed room with satoru, suguru, and shoko. it’s a small area, but it’s enough to live in if your necessities are met. though, the only unfortunate thing is the fact that there is a clear lack of an area to relieve and clean yourself.

suguru bangs on the heavy, metal door to no avail. he grunts, “we’re really stuck in.”

“no shit, sherlock,” shoko quips playfully, lighting a cigarette no one knows how she got. “put it out sho, I don’t think there’s ventilation here,” satoru says while still holding you close.

she only points up. “there is, dumbass.” she smiles.

“what the hell is happening…” you mumble—still unsure of what to think. shoko crouches down in front of you, but she doesn’t blow the smoke against your pretty face. “you hit your head when we landed in the classroom earlier. luckily, you fell on satoru, so your body was fine.”

“I’m fine too by the way!” satoru interjects.

“who?” shoko replies.

“me!”

“asked.” the brunette scoffs as the amethyst-eyed hunk snickers like a little kid behind the shorter girl.

satoru rolls his eyes as he hugs you tighter. “angel, look at that! they’re so mean to me,” he whines against the skin of your neck. they seem so cool about all this, aren’t they even a little scared of dying?

“aren’t you guys scared?” you ask.

“terrified,” shoko answers, letting out a sigh, the smile on her face, disappearing as fast as it came.

satoru shrugs, as cocky as ever. “nah, not me though, baby. I’ll save you from whatever shithole we’re in,” he announced while suguru only stays calm. he just waits and listens. you wonder wants going on in his head right now.

“sugu, what about you?” you quiz, and he comes closer. he holds the side of your face with one hand, almost engulfing you entirely. “we’ll do anything to protect you,” is all he tells you.

a few minutes later, on the speakers, you hear a serene tune, but you don’t associate it with peace. a voice—laced with authority and sweet condescension speaks, “good day, players!” they greet.

“I’m sure you’re all wondering why you’re here and who we are.” they start—too cheery… too happy. “truth be told, we chose a random university and took athletes, fraternities, sororities, and scholars. you’re all just so fortunate enough to be here today!”

you involuntarily cling onto satoru, almost drawing blood from his skin as your grip tightens. “each day, you will be placed into three different mini games. additionally, you’ve been grouped into four—some games require the team to work together while other rounds, you must choose a representative. more rules will be explained as we continue. “earlier, in the game with daruma-san, two people were found dead. they have been revived with minimal scarring, ready to take on a brand new day of god’s will.”

“we will resume our games tomorrow at 6AM. failure to comply to the rules or refusal will result into your immediate removal. please take note that revivals are only permitted for those who die during the mini games. good luck, players.” and the line ends.

your heart is beating out of your chest. “fuck…” you murmur, hiding your face onto the crook of satoru’s neck. now, all you can do is watch the clock on the wall.
