Statistically, you can't accurately say that all of us are [your fav claim here] and be correct. There's too much variation in humanity.

Are there people who indulge in maladaptive daydreaming, suffer from delusions, or feel overly special?

Yes. Probably some percentage of the godspousing community contains people like that.

However, some godspouses are genuine.

You don't like that? Overgeneralization is a cognitive distortion.

Godspouse discourse has existed for as long as godspouses have, so decades, if not hundreds of years.

This is a post to say: my blogs are godspouse-safe and I am a godspouse-friendly practitioner!

And for the many years to come of discourse — positive and negative, as discourse only means discussion — may this be here for friends and strangers alike.

I personally think it's possible to critique the bastardisation of religion via social media at the same time as not invalidating the experiences of godspouses.

It's possible to not only attribute the existence of godspouses to social media. Social media is our window to the experiences of others including those who have these connections with the gods, but that doesn't make social media the primary motivator.

At the same time, because social media has become an accessible platform of sharing our experiences with the world, I'm sure there are godspouses out there who realised what their relationships with the gods were through places like these, or learnt about the term, or used it as a jumping pad for research, or — in finding out more about this — maybe that's how their deity decided it was time to reach out about it.

We can acknowledge a lack of historical sources at the same time as knowing that there is information that's been destroyed or lost, that we may never see again.

And some of the history we do have may very well be what we know godspousing as today, even if the words are different. Even if language has evolved.

And if it turns out that we don't have much on it historically? That's okay. Mortals, religion, and gods all change. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here today worshipping our lovely divinities.

We can be respectful of the gods and utterly pious while knowing that from the beginning of time, both mortals and gods have sought connection with one another.

That connection can take on a variety of appearances!

That includes if someone doesn't want to use the word godspouse but the concept is close to what their relationship is. It includes not having anything to do with godspousing and still having meaningful connections with the gods. It includes using the word proudly with deep, deep resonance. It includes the word being "good enough". It includes the in-between and vague, blurry lines.

We can express caution to young people diving into this path, because it's true, growing up takes a lot of time (see: forever). I do believe young people (especially those under-age) should seek to learn more about themselves, about life, about love, about education, about career, about family, about their values in life first — because perhaps they will find what they desire once they move out of home and have an income of their own and a social circle that isn't restricted (if that might be the case under one's household). A deity doesn't have to be all or any of the above for them.

(So that there is no doubt about it: I don't think minors should engage with godspousing)

I don't worry about "the ones on tiktok" or those who get referenced in anti posts because, chances are, they'll realise how cringe they are one day (we all have before and we all will continue to). Or they might learn and learn and learn and realise that it's not for them, or maybe that there is something meaningful there for them. In any case, the gods will handle it better than we can.

At the same time, I commend the godspouses/consorts/partners and more (even those involved with other spirits: infernal, angelic, fae or beyond) who post about their experiences and talk about them. It is a privilege to have access to another person's website or blog or platform. I think it's great for combating misinformation (whether intended or not), and I think it's great if they just want to exist rather than educate anyone.

Not all see this (these opinions, this post, this topic) in the same way I do. Not all see the gods as individual beings who enjoy relations with mortals, or see the gods as beings who can express these desires or emotions in a reciprocal manner. That's all okay.

It’s ok to have a bit of a crush on your deities.

Like hello they’re beings that accept you for who you are, love you and appreciate you, are always there for you, and let’s be real a bunch of them are pretty as fuck. Why WOULDN’T someone have a crush on them? If you can have a parental, best friend, sibling, or even just strictly devotee/deity like relationship, then why would it be wrong to have a bit of a crush?

Of course, no god will be going after anyone underage. Like hello they’re deities, they know that’s wrong. But who didn’t have a bit of a crush on an older celebrity or something as a teen? They’ll just see it as ‘aw, that’s cute’ the way we see kittens and puppies cute, something that’s endearing and sweet, and leave it at that, as any responsible adult would. Maybe they’ll gently tell you change your perspective if they’re seeking a different dynamic with you. And that’s ok.

I’m no expert on godpartnering or anything like that, but the fact it’s even a thing means deities have been knowing about us mortals getting all heart eyed for them for centuries. I promise you it’s nothing they haven’t seen before.

If I wanted to describe myself in idealistic terms:

a romantic fool, a daydreamer, a fragile hoper, a storyteller.

Ruled near entirely by a heart connected to a brain often on the fritz.

Someone else who knows You told me You’re incredibly patient,

that all You wish is that one be perfectly clear with You.

With oneself, even, and I get that.

No evasion, no self-deluding, no nothing that could get in my own way.

The initial anxiety of getting to know You is normal, they said,

it’s Your normal, powerful aura, Your natural energy—

quite strong, intensely there, unapologetically real.

That You’re a great deal warmer than most would expect,

gentler, and

understanding of the human condition, maybe this is why You’re called “Dark-Minded.”

Haunting woman,

multifaceted and layered.

As goddess of ghosts, whispering specters, all spirits of the dead roaming Earth,

I suppose I wouldn’t mind meeting some if You willed it.

Heck, You could even give me of an inkling of Your own presence.

I do admit to getting spooked, but I’m braver than I used to be,

no longer so vulnerable.

(Largely since I’m not as self-hating anymore. Other deities have helped me with that bit.)

I trust that You wouldn’t send anything bad my way.

I can build up a tolerance.

I don’t wanna bite off more than I can chew there, but then again,

…do I truly know everything I’m capable of handling?

Will I surprise myself? Shock myself?

Or indeed get overwhelmed, growing from it?

Both outcomes are fine, ultimately.

I want to reach out, to learn new things, to get to know You, to understand You, too,

(it’s only fair, a connection goes both directions)

perhaps differently than I’ve come to know others in my practice, if You’ll allow it.

What great motivation for new creative projects: a pretty lady. (I ain’t slick…)

If I’m rushing into everything, I apologize, but I wanna tell You:

when I first read Your name online, acknowledgment crept upon me slowly,

a note with “MÊLINOÊ!” subtly written on it, tacked to a proverbial corkboard in my head,

out of leftfield, almost. I admit it was partially because of a story I’m penning

which involves ghosts deeply as part of its worldbuilding.

I thought I could incorporate You into the tale somehow, maybe I still can.

Yet there was something more, quietly swirling in me, than merely that.

I didn’t really recognize it as a full interest, because I couldn’t find much “about” You,

I may also just not have looked hard enough—I’ll fix that soon.

I essentially denied anything meaningful was there.

But now that You’ve returned to my awareness,

I am more educated than before,

not the same individual I was only months, weeks, days, hours ago.

I feel newer all over again with the rise of every morn, each sun’s set, stroke of midnight,

during the best of times, and the most hurtful times.
