Enter Jen Peeples, an atheist spokesperson who is a real-life rocket scientist. Peeples is a true Renaissance woman; she's an aerospace engineer, a former military test pilot, and a widely-respected atheist activist who co-hosts the popular television show and podcast The Atheist Experience and also the acclaimed streaming show and podcast Godless Bitches (both affiliated with the Atheist Community of Austin). Peeples was raised as a Christian living in the Bible Belt, but later found her way to atheism. She served in the United States Army for 26 years, where she had to hide the fact that she was gay for fear of being dishonorably discharged. She ultimately retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Today she is able to live openly gay and she is an outspoken atheist activist. “At this point I no longer defend atheism,” she says. “I actively promote it. My life has the value, meaning, and purpose that I give it, and I'm very pleased to be affiliated with a group like the Atheist Community of Austin that shares that philosophy.
