Prologue
At first, you thought it was just a harmless place, that nothing there would actually hurt you. After all, it was only the remains of an old base that had been out of use for a long time.
It was supposed to be just a simple journey there. You wanted to be useful to the Resistance somehow. You wanted to earn your place as the first human to be with them.
Even so, when you merely mentioned the idea of going there on your own to investigate and maybe bring back parts and interesting things that could be useful to them, you were immediately reprimanded for it.
They certainly didnât want you setting foot in that place.
But your stubbornness spoke louder than those Mobian voices, and soon enough, you set off alone toward the place. What could possibly go wrong in the end? It wasnât like Eggman had left traps behind in a ruined base he didnât even use anymore.
Armed with all the courage you had, you headed there, determined to investigate the site and collect anything valuable.
Your journey was calm and didnât even take half as long as you expected. Soon, in the distance, the rubble and scrap of what had once been the base became visible among the vegetation.
With a wide smile on your face and quickening your pace, you reached the entrance of the place. The destroyed roof, vines growing along the walls, and moss taking over every damp corner were the main details.
There were remains of broken, scrapped badniks, nothing really useful left outside.
Still determined to find something, you allowed yourself to enter the silent environment.
With hesitant, careful steps, you walked through the dimly lit base, your eyes scanning every little spot.
It didnât take long before your irises focused on something shiny. It glimmered among the dust and debris.
It looked very much like a metallic bracelet, stylized with highly technological designs, a brown gem embedded on one side. It was far too beautiful to be something made by Eggman, and yet there was a certain feeling that kept you from crouching down and picking it up.
But overcoming any hesitation, you allowed yourself to reach for the object, your palm wrapping around its cold surface, feeling the icy touch of that metal.
And in the blink of an eye, the embedded gem shimmered, and the bracelet strangely made a surprising leap up your arm, making you gasp loudly in shock and jump back in alarm.
That thing, as soon as it felt your touch, clamped onto your wrist like a bear trap. And even though it didnât hurt, the contact with the inner part of the braceletâs band felt like it was burning your skin.
In desperation, you tried to grab and pull it off with one hand, but it didnât move even a single centimeter, firmer than cement on your wrist.
That was when you felt that sensation surge through your body, a mix of agony and weakness settling in, your body breaking out in goosebumps.
Leaning against the wall, your eyes widened as you noticed the back of your hand, a layer of fur growing at an astonishing speed, your nails quickly turning into small claws.
You had no idea what Eggman had done there, but it worked fast.
To your despair, the transformation didnât stop for even a second. You closed your eyes, and when you opened them again, you realized you had shrunk to almost half your size, with strange things on your head and back.
Everything about you felt strange, and walking became difficult, as if you were learning from scratch all over again.
All you knew was that maybe, just maybe, stepping into that base hadnât been the best idea after all.
But either way, there was only one last thing left for you to think about. How were you going to explain this to him?
Sonic
Green eyes narrowed, then an eyebrow arched. He was visibly confused, one ear flicking to the side as his arms crossed over his chest while the blue hedgehog analyzed you.
You knew it would be far too complicated to explain this. You didnât even know exactly what he was thinking at the moment, but the familiar clothes might already be enough.
âItâs really youâŚ?â Sonic asked quietly, scratching his chin and looking you over, analyzing every detail.
âI-I think soâŚâ Your hand nervously clutched the bracelet firmly attached to your wrist.
It was new, indeed, and rather uncomfortable, but maybe it could be dealt with.
âHow did this happen, babe?â he murmured. âYou⌠turned into a Mobian too!â His voice sounded more excited than expected.
âY-yesâŚâ you stammered, looking away. âIâm sorry, everyone tried to warn me⌠and still I insisted on going to that damn placeâŚâ you began to explain.
Meanwhile, the hedgehogâs eyes slid over your appearance. You really were different from the human he was used to seeing. But somehow, there was something special that drew him completely to you.
Maybe it was that sense of familiarity â now you were both hedgehogs. And your quills looked so soft to him. They were bristled defensively; you certainly still couldnât control them.
And your scent was what attracted him the most. A strange mix of old attraction and instinct.
It was during that reverie that he focused on your wrist, the obviously strange bracelet there. Gently, he extended his hand, holding your arm and lifting it, sliding a finger over the object as he examined it.
It was definitely Eggmanâs â his symbol was embedded, very small, in the brown gem. But above all, it was strange that the doctor even had something like that. What was he planning with it in the end?
Sonic noticed your body tense for a moment.
âI-I know this is awful! I can try talking to Tails⌠maybe heâll know how to remove this thing, you donât have to worry, Iâll fix itââ
You felt a firm finger gently press against your lips, stopping you from saying another word.
âShhhâŚâ The blue hedgehog fell silent, a small smirk forming as he continued to admire every little detail about you. âThis is coolâŚâ he chuckled softly, and you felt one of his ears subtly fold back.
âWhat?â Your eyes widened.
âHm? This is cool,â he repeated. âYou and me⌠hedgehogs⌠you knowâŚâ He laughed again, leaving you stunned for a few seconds.
âBut⌠I thought thatââ you tried to argue.
âHey⌠donât get me wrong, I really like you as a humanâŚâ Sonic stepped even closer, gently pressing his muzzle against your shoulder. âBut you like this⌠with those bristled quills⌠and that little scentâŚâ He sniffed your fur for emphasis.
Immediately, you felt your face heat up. You were sure you were blushing, even if you couldnât see it.
âSonic!â you scolded him, taking a few steps back. âHow can you be liking this? Itâs terrible!â You crossed your arms, frowning.
He shrugged, sliding his hand over your quills.
âAnd youâre not happy?â With deliberate steps, he moved closer again.
âConfused, right? I get it⌠But Iâll help you not feel that way anymoreâŚâ With a warm look, he leaned down a bit, since you were now somewhat shorter than him.
Your breath hitched and your heart raced with his closeness, until you felt the touch of his muzzle against yours and his mouth capturing yours, his fangs gently nibbling in provocation.
And for a moment, you completely forgot this was supposed to be a bad situation.
Your quills slowly relaxed, becoming soft, your eyes closing as you gradually allowed him to guide your arms to wrap around his neck.
The moment felt endless, until slowly, and to your disappointment, he pulled away from the kiss, letting out a small laugh.
âSo, what do you say? Now Iâve got someone to take on some adventures with me?â He raised his eyebrows provocatively.
âIâŚâ You took a deep breath. âAre you really happy about this?â you asked.
âAnd why wouldnât I be?â He crossed his arms, laughing softly. âIâll teach you everything⌠absolutely everything about being a hedgehogâŚâ The final part was said in a playful, rough tone.
Looking away, your face heated up again, and involuntarily your tail began to sway in contentment, which didnât go unnoticed by your boyfriend, who simply chuckled.
âCome onâŚâ Sonic extended his hand. âThereâs a lot of things I want to show youâŚâ
You hesitated at first, but soon took his hand, letting him pull you closer to his body and lift you into his arms, making you gasp softly.
âA lot of thingsâŚ?â you asked uncertainly.
âYeah⌠youâre gonna love every single one of them⌠trust meâŚâ You even thought about arguing with him, but there was no time â in the blink of an eye, he dashed forward with you in his arms.
Maybe, just maybe, he was a little too excited about this.
Shadow
You literally didnât need to explain anything to him. Shadow was outside, fixing up his motorcycle. His ears flicked in your direction as soon as he heard the crackle of dry leaves and breaking branches.
Looking to the side, he raised an eyebrow, then closed his eyes, shaking his head and sighing in exasperation.
The black hedgehog recognized those eyes very well â specifically the eyes he loved seeing early in the morning. That immediately made him drop everything he was doing and stand up.
With deliberate steps and an impassive expression, nearly impossible to read, Shadow approached you, already analyzing your fur and your bristled quills. And most importantly, the bracelet you definitely didnât have before leaving home.
He could recognize you from miles away.
He stopped right in front of you, crossing his arms.
âWhat happened?â he asked with a huff, as if preparing himself to scold you over some foolishness and give you a lecture.
âW-well⌠I kind of turned into⌠a hedgehog?â you murmured, subtly shrinking into yourself.
âHmph, I can see that⌠I meanââ He brought his fingers up to rub his temples.
âAh⌠right⌠where do I startâŚâ you whispered, looking away and scratching the side of your face. âI went to the abandoned baseââ
Shadow extended his open hand toward you, signaling for you to stop.
âYou⌠went? Even after so many warningsâŚâ he murmured, clearly displeased.
âYeah⌠I didâŚâ you replied, suddenly feeling very embarrassed. âP-please forgive me⌠I just wanted to help⌠but there must be some way to reverse thisââ you started, but didnât finish.
Suddenly, completely catching you off guard, the strong arms of the black hedgehog slowly wrapped around your now smaller body, his muzzle burying itself into the curve of your neck as he sighed deeply.
ââŚWhat matters⌠is that you didnât get hurtâŚâ he whispered, sending shivers through your entire body as his arms pulled you impossibly closer to him.
âI think soâŚâ you replied, allowing yourself to relax into your boyfriendâs embrace, your arms wrapping around his back as you sighed with a mix of contentment and relief at the way he was receiving you.
And to your even greater surprise, a low, constant sound reached your ears, somehow familiar â and the strangest part? You were the one making that sound.
Your brow furrowed as you pulled away from Shadow.
âSomething wrong?â he asked, raising an eyebrow.
âI⌠Iâm hearing something⌠in meâŚâ Your ears twitched as you tried to understand the noise.
Slowly, as if to confirm something, your hands came to rest on your chest, just below your throat, immediately making your eyes widen. The sound. It was like a low, controlled purr that, for some reason, warmed you from the inside.
Shadow looked at you in confusion for a few seconds, until he understood what was causing your unease. For him, it was natural, but thinking about it, for you it must have been something entirely new.
ââŚInteresting⌠youâre purring because of meâŚâ he huffed, placing a hand on his hip, a tone of near pride in his voice.
âMe?!â you stared at him in surprise.
âYes⌠hedgehogs purrâŚâ he explained, holding your hands, a subtle, almost invisible smile at the corner of his muzzle.
âThen why have I never heard you do it?â Your hands clenched.
âI have self-control,â he said casually, intertwining his fingers with yours, making you sigh in exasperation.
That was just great â hedgehog habits simply appearing in you. And for some reason you hated to question, Shadowâs scent made you not want to pull away from him at all.
He had always smelled good, but this was too much. And somehow, his scent was also on you now. For a moment, you caught a glimpse of how territory marking really worked for them.
It was clear now why other males didnât get too close to you.
Shaking your head, you returned from the world of your thoughts.
âItâs okay⌠when I go back to normal, this will sort itself outâŚâ you murmured.
Shadow blinked once, then twice at you, already letting you know you wouldnât like what he was about to say.
âYouâre going to go backâŚ?â He raised an eyebrow.
âOf course! I canât stay like this for the rest of my lifeâŚâ
âShadow! Iâm human, I donât think itâs a good idea if I suddenly just show up as a Mobian!â You tried to argue.
âI donât see that as a problemâŚâ he commented, his eyes scanning you meticulously. âIn fact⌠some opportunities showed upâŚâ he said in a low, rough tone, making your face heat up.
Your hands quickly covered your eyes.
âFor Gaiaâs sake, ShadowâŚâ And slowly, he brought his muzzle close to your face, pressing it there, breathing in your scent.
He seemed to like it â far too much â staying there for a long moment before huffing and pulling away.
You even thought he was going to say something, but honestly, he didnât need to. His warm eyes already said everythingâŚ
âShadowâŚâ you murmured.
âWhat are you thinking?â you whispered, looking away.
âYour quills⌠theyâre still very bristled⌠can you relax them?â It was a strange request, but the way he spoke and looked at you somehow told you it meant more than you wanted it to.
âI donât think soâŚâ
âThen I guess Iâll have to do it myselfâŚâ he muttered.
âWhatââ Suddenly his mouth brushed against yours in a long, heated kiss, his arms pulling your waist closer. Like magic, your quills slowly relaxed, and it was noticeable how the weight on your back suddenly lessened.
You had no idea what he had planned, but maybe it was interesting⌠and maybe it would convince you once and for all to never go back to being human.
Silver
He recognized you immediately at the door of the house. But instead of asking how it happened, what caused it, or anything else, the white hedgehog simply grabbed your hands, his eyes widening as he searched for any injuries.
âMy goodness⌠are you okay? Feeling any pain?â he murmured, walking around you to look for any scratches or damage.
âIâm fine, love⌠it was just a⌠mishapâŚâ you murmured, noticing how he didnât seem to judge how you had become a hedgehog and was simply more worried about your well-being than anything else.
Once he confirmed you were indeed fine, Silver let out a sigh of relief, stepping closer and resting his forehead against yours.
ââŚThank goodness⌠Iâd never forgive myself if something bad had happened⌠you should have called me to go with youâŚâ he began. Apparently, he didnât consider your transformation a problem.
âBut⌠I turned into thisâŚâ you gestured to yourself sadly.
âHm? A hedgehog, yeahâŚâ He raised an eyebrow.
âYouâre not⌠impressed?â
âI am⌠but⌠the most important thing is youâŚâ His hand cupped your cheek. âAh, but does this transformation hurt? Any discomfort?â His eyes scanned yours, looking for answers.
âAh⌠noâŚâ you replied softly. âI mean⌠I sometimes poke myself with these⌠ow!â You brought your hand to your head, feeling the prick of the quills in your palm.
Immediately, the white hedgehog held your hand, examining it and seeing it was nothing serious. Then he let out a small laugh.
âYou get used to it⌠first time as a hedgehogâŚâ he said gently, his eyes full of happiness as he looked at you like that.
âThere has to be a way to end this⌠right?â
âMaybe, dear⌠but is that what you want?â Silver asked.
âWhat do you mean? I think itâs good⌠for me to go back to being human, right?â you answered.
âAh, yes, yes⌠for sure⌠but I donât know⌠itâs just⌠itâs pretty cool having you as a hedgehog tooâŚâ He shrugged, scratching the back of his neck and looking away.
Falling silent for a few seconds, you analyzed his posture and reaction. Silver really did seem to like you this way. It was impressive â maybe it awakened some instinct or sense of familiarity. It didnât hurt to ask.
âWhy? Do you⌠like me like this?â you murmured to him.
âLook⌠I wonât lie⌠I like it, a lotâŚâ He laughed, placing a hand on his hip. âFor several reasonsâŚâ he whispered the last part.
âHm? Want to give me an exampleâŚ?â You crossed your arms, and Silver smiled softly as he stepped closer.
âAlrightâŚâ He took another step until he was face to face with you, his hand slowly and carefully threading through your still-bristled quills, pulling your head toward his shoulder. âFeel thisâŚ?â
For a second, you were confused about what he meant, until you breathed in some of his scent. It wasnât like a normal smell â it wasnât sweet or unpleasant, it was completely different.
You had felt it before, but didnât know exactly what it was, until now, feeling it directly from the source, intensifying the closer you got to his neck, making your eyes squeeze shut as you basked in it.
It was contagious, intoxicating even, and it made you realize exactly how real hedgehogs perceived things.
Opening your half-lidded eyes, you noticed Silver was the same way against your shoulder, eyes closed, muzzle sniffing your scent. It was curious and intimate at the same time, making your mind spin.
ââŚI can feel⌠your scentâŚâ you replied. âBut not like âsmellâ exactlyâŚâ Silver laughed at your lack of words.
âYou can call it⌠âchemistryâ⌠sounds betterâŚâ he explained. âEvery hedgehog has it⌠cool, right?â
âItâs curiousâŚâ you commented.
âUh-huhâŚâ The white hedgehog wrapped his arms around your waist. âAnd your scent is amazingâŚâ he whispered. âIf you were already incredible as a humanâŚâ He laughed at himself, shaking his head.
âI think I get what you meanâŚâ you replied.
âWell⌠itâs your choiceâŚâ he shrugged.
âIâll think about it carefullyâŚâ you murmured.
âGreat⌠now, how about I show you some more cool things?â He gently caressed your cheek.
âAlright⌠show me thenâŚâ Unexpectedly, his cyan-blue aura wrapped around both of you, promptly lifting you into the air with him, making you gasp softly.
Wherever he was taking you, you were more than excited to find out.
