The whispers of God

stir up the cherry blossoms.

I remember listening to Flyleaf's "I'm So Sick" and wondering what the lyric "itching ears" meant. I knew it was from the Bible. I made a mental note to look up the biblical meaning of the phrase and promptly forgot all about it. Last night at work, my earlobe started itching - so, naturally, I looked it up while on break.

The phrase comes from 2 Timothy 4:3. The verse states, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears."

That's us.

That's right now.

People don't want to hear the truth anymore. They don't care about the truth. They only want to hear what makes them feel good. They'll only listen to teachers and leaders who will parrot back to them what they already believe or want to believe. People are choosing mythology and blasphemy and heresy and selfish delusion.

Here's the truth:

People aren't inherently good. Our God is a just God, and that means we will be judged. The only way to escape the final judgment is to pick up your cross and follow Him.
