A Gau is a Tibetan Buddhist amulet container or prayer box, usually made of metal and worn as jewelry. Often, a small glass window appears in the front of the Gau and a small clay God or Goddess image is placed in view. This Gau contains Green Tara, who is the Goddess enabling success in work, achievements and enlightened activities. Tara is a Buddhist savior-goddess especially popular in Tibet, Nepal and Mongolia, where Tara is the most important deity. Her name is Sgrol-ma, meaning "she who saves" and the "mother of liberation".
