Please recall the WIFI invitation my phone rec'd in the vicinity of 82nd & Burnside from the FBI Surveillance Van. It turns out, that is the name someone gave their WIFI account. It makes me chuckle each time I am cruising through the intersection and inspires me to change my own from Centurylink546 to Lichenland. If I send out on the airwaves that this is lichenland, more lichen will certainly come my way.
Photo 1 is an archway that beckoned me. Damn if only I were only 6 inches tall. I am sure an entire enchanted land is just the other side of this portal.
Next is featured a gnarled Rhododendron and the mossy carpet at its base. The moss does seem to provide a nursery setting for lichen. I was tempted to dig around a bit to see if the "leafy part' of the cladonia was obscured by the moss, or these thalia were on their own. I resisted because it appeared the owners were at home. Yeah me respecting property rights.
Last up are five photos of a Glorybower and cloaked it is. This is just the trunk. I circled it to show how different the sides are. I don't say this lightly, but the variety and specialization is mind-boggling. Again, perhaps it wouldn't be if I had studied real science instead of political science, but I hadn't yet fallen in love with lichen.
The giant Elm across the street is releasing its papery pod things (that is science talk.) Coupled with the wind it is resulting in a near blizzard. One time I saw a baby funnel cloud of them in our intersection.
It is suppose to be near 80 today, this last day of April 2014, so I am off for a run (okay a trot) with my trusty iPhone ready to capture anything that that captures my eye, allowing me to pause and catch my breath, while it looks like I am doing something.
