#ghost!hiro

For humor, I’m going to say it was a vacuum cleaner. LUIGI, THIS IS YOUR FAULT!

Tadashi is happy he now has a ghost friend, even though Hiro can sometimes mess with the electronics in Tadashi’s garage lab and make his computer blow a fuse. Hiro’s happy to be finally free and surrounded by people who really want him around. Aunt Cass is happy because once Hiro’s out of the vacuum, she has a great new vacuum that actually manages to suck up Mochi’s fur!

(Of course, there’s a melancholy side to this as well. Tadashi and Aunt Cass purposefully never ask how Hiro died, because they’re smart enough to know that the story will be nothing but tragic and bring up bad memories. After all, he’s only 13. But they’re also smart enough to put together the puzzle pieces on their own. Hiro’s familiar enough with technology that he can’t have died that long ago, and he seems very uneasy around water. And there was a news story that came out about a year ago about a boy who went missing and showed up in the San Fransokyo Bay...

They also purposefully don’t ask him why he never went looking for his family. No one ever came looking for him after all)

Tadashi didn’t know what was going on. He’d been standing in front of the graves of his friends and his brother, having just returned from confronting Callaghan at the jail, when suddenly he felt as if he couldn’t breathe. The coffee he’d gotten on the way to the graveyard as a pick-me-up fell from his hands, spilling out all over the cool grass as he stiffened and the pressure increased. 

But then, the pressure slowly melted from something that felt oppressive to something that felt warm, and comfortable. Tadashi relaxed into it, unsure really of what exactly he was doing or feeling, but simply going along with it, letting his heart guide him.

Just as he was about to bring his arms up, as if to reciprocate some kind of hug, the warm pressure disappeared. Tadashi stumbled, right foot crushing his fallen coffee cup, and he very nearly fell on his face if he hadn’t reached out at the last minute and grabbed Hiro’s headstone to keep himself upright.

For a moment, Tadashi breathed in and out in the cold stillness of the graveyard. Then, he sighed, uncurled his fingers from around the edge of his little brother’s headstone, and stood back up.

He couldn’t see the ghosts of his friends or Hiro as they faded with soft smiles on their faces, content to leave him after getting their own closure through him, and after including him in their group hug that he had been unaware of. Hiro had not left with his friends just yet though, watching over his brother for a little while longer. He knew that Tadashi would be alright, but it was hard to believe when Tadashi still stared at Hiro’s grave with such a heartbreaking expression. 

So when Tadashi sat down in the grass, picked up the coffee cup and began to worry its weak paper structure between his hands while he talked to the five graves, Hiro sat down next to him. Someone had to stay to listen to Tadashi’s stories after all.

has his consciousness seperate from his body- he's basically a ghost. While he's off partying with his new abilities, he sees Calaghan and tunes in to his plans. While no one has been able to see him yet, he decides to try to go find Tadashi and explain what's up. He does, and strangely enough, Tadashi can SEE him. And Hiro can finally tell his bro that he's okay. But there's no time to be celebrating, there's superhero suits to make and villains to foil. Baymax is more Tadashi's caretaker

in this AU, so he's still there. The air around Coma Ghost!Hiro is slightly warmer, so Bay can tell his general viscinity. When Tadashi tries to tell his buddies about Hiro and his idea to be superheroes, no one really believes him except Fred, (and Bay but he doesn't really count) so Tadashi has to try an prove it by getting Hiro to unlock his inner poltergeist. It takes some convincing but it works, and soon they're on the road to superhero stardom. Tadashi's suit is similar to Hiro's

canon one, except it has ice abilities. A friend and I invented this cool ice bow-and-arrow thing for him with awesome exploding arrows. We have a few more details, like how Hiro wakes up eventually and Tadashi is 10x as protective and doesn't let him join the superheroes at first, an I toTALLY FORGOT THAT HIRO HAS A SPEECH IMPEDIMENT CAUSED BY BRAIN DAMAGE AND HE CAN ONLY SAY 'Tadashi' AND 'Fly' AND GHOST HIM HAS PROBLEMS TALKING TOO BUT YEAH THAT'ABOUT IT SORRY IT WAS SO LONG

Oh gosh no, that’s awesome! And you squeaked it in within the 4 ask limit so it’s all good!

But ooooh, that’s really interesting because it’s usually Tadashi as the ghost guiding Hiro, but that would be really cool with it being HIRO as the ghost. Especially because I’m pretty sure between the two brothers, Tadashi’s the one who’d end up with a massive guilt complex, which would impede his ability to fight Callaghan and cause all sorts of delicious drama.

And I’m sorry, this is my inner Zelda nerd talking, but I see ice + bow + arrows and immediately go OMFG ICE ARROWS FROM OCARINA OF TIME. And now I’m totally losing my mind and seeing Tadashi eventually conquering his fear of fire and he ends up with fire arrows and fire powers as well as the ice powers and now he’s basically Twinrova and where was I going with this, I had a point.

Tadashi found out he was a medium because he noticed Hiro trying to hand in something he’d written, while everyone else is panicking about flying paper. Tadashi’s just like ????????? though until he googles ‘i can see ghosts help’ and works out from the Google search that he’s a medium.

Sometimes Tadashi lets Hiro possess him, mostly so he can talk to people who aren’t mediums, but usually Hiro uses stuff that Tadashi poured enough weird supernatural medium energy into to allow ghosts to touch it.

Tadashi manages to use one microbot as a conduit to allow Hiro to possess the microbots. All of them. Admittedly it only worked AFTER they’d removed the transmitter from Callaghan but Hiro retrieved most of the stuff in the portal (and Abigail) while holding the portal together with microbots…only to pass out from using up so much spectral energy. He’s fine after he sleeps for a week but they had to leave him there for the night because Tadashi was too tired to make himself solid to ghosts and Hiro was too busy sleeping to make himself solid to Tadashi.

So there’s Hiro, removed from the hyperspace (or portal) dimension, with almost-out hitodama, and Tadashi shakes him awake terrified and Hiro’s just like ‘five more minutes, Tadashi’ and the hitodama noticeably flare up as he wakes up, so Tadashi asks him if it’s normal for his hitodama to almost go out when he’s asleep and he says he doesn’t know but it doesn’t hurt like if they were to get smothered or whatever so it must be, they also die down when he’s trying to hide, or really lonely or otherwise sad and it doesn’t affect his health.

After that, Tadashi learns the signs of a hitodama that’s fading for a good reason (sleepy Hiro, trying-to-hide-but-not-terrified Hiro, or trying-to-make-his-hitodama-smaller-as-a-demonstration Hiro) versus a bad reason (lonely or sad Hiro, terrified and trying to hide Hiro) or a really bad reason (starving Hiro, badly hurt Hiro, smothered hitodama).

Then he realises that Hiro’s hitodama will sometimes also flare up, such as if Hiro’s angry or scared (but only sometimes, with scared). Or if Hiro’s excited. Or if he’s being a showoff. Or if he’s been given horseradish or mustard, which have a caffeine like effect on yurei. Hiro also sometimes flares his hitodama if it’s too dark. Tadashi learns to tell those apart too, because Hiro had learnt how to hide his facial expression but can’t hide the changes in his hitodama. (Hiro slowly learns that it’s safe for him to show his real feelings. )

Also yes, wacky adventures with a group of loving friends IN SPACE, who end up all becoming each other’s family IN SPACE. Although only Tadashi and Hiro end up legally being each other’s family.

(Oh god, someone gave Hiro CAFFEINE??? Goodbye space family, it was nice knowing you

Hiro had been alone for quite a while before dying, and hyperspace is a very lonely place, so Hiro, upon meeting him, immediately has his tiny, guttering hitodama warm him up like the tiny little portable fires that they are. And then they talk for five hours before Tadashi is rescued, and Hiro has to come with them because he won't move his hitodama away from Tadashi and he'll cease to exist if he gets too far away from them. So Tadashi ends up practically adopting a yurei.Except that yurei that have stayed long enough in hyperspace basically end up alive again, but as a different species-and Hiro's had the transformation completed. So he still ages! He's just got a chameleon-like colour changing ability, a finned tail, and fins on his arms and legs, along with the hitodama. (No gravity in hyperspace! ) It takes a while to find something a fully transformed yurei can even eat, but it turns out to be hot sauce. Lots of hot sauce.By the time that they find that out, Hiro's hitodama are almost out (which would mean that he'd die AGAIN) because he hadn't actually eaten anything since he'd died. Tadashi is very happy that his genius new younger brother's found something he can eat, even if he DOES scorch the walls with his hitodama a lot. And once set fire to the bed. And often needs to go to the low-gravity areas to prevent injury from the relatively extreme gravity on the ship.

Hiro ends up being the only yurei student in human history, mostly because he a, stayed on long enough to transform instead of going back or ceasing to exist, b, he didn't end up falling in with the yurei government after he lost his memories in transformation (they all do that) and c, Tadashi.

So it’s like Ghosts? But IN SPAAAAAACE

I’m getting a very Star Trek, Stargate, Babylon 5 vibe from this AU. Lots of shenanigans IN SPAAAAAACE with a loving group of friends who are out on adventures. Nice. IN SPAAAAAAAAACE
