#coma!hiro

I actually have had a similar ask around this idea before. It is here :) 

has his consciousness seperate from his body- he's basically a ghost. While he's off partying with his new abilities, he sees Calaghan and tunes in to his plans. While no one has been able to see him yet, he decides to try to go find Tadashi and explain what's up. He does, and strangely enough, Tadashi can SEE him. And Hiro can finally tell his bro that he's okay. But there's no time to be celebrating, there's superhero suits to make and villains to foil. Baymax is more Tadashi's caretaker

in this AU, so he's still there. The air around Coma Ghost!Hiro is slightly warmer, so Bay can tell his general viscinity. When Tadashi tries to tell his buddies about Hiro and his idea to be superheroes, no one really believes him except Fred, (and Bay but he doesn't really count) so Tadashi has to try an prove it by getting Hiro to unlock his inner poltergeist. It takes some convincing but it works, and soon they're on the road to superhero stardom. Tadashi's suit is similar to Hiro's

canon one, except it has ice abilities. A friend and I invented this cool ice bow-and-arrow thing for him with awesome exploding arrows. We have a few more details, like how Hiro wakes up eventually and Tadashi is 10x as protective and doesn't let him join the superheroes at first, an I toTALLY FORGOT THAT HIRO HAS A SPEECH IMPEDIMENT CAUSED BY BRAIN DAMAGE AND HE CAN ONLY SAY 'Tadashi' AND 'Fly' AND GHOST HIM HAS PROBLEMS TALKING TOO BUT YEAH THAT'ABOUT IT SORRY IT WAS SO LONG

Oh gosh no, that’s awesome! And you squeaked it in within the 4 ask limit so it’s all good!

But ooooh, that’s really interesting because it’s usually Tadashi as the ghost guiding Hiro, but that would be really cool with it being HIRO as the ghost. Especially because I’m pretty sure between the two brothers, Tadashi’s the one who’d end up with a massive guilt complex, which would impede his ability to fight Callaghan and cause all sorts of delicious drama.

And I’m sorry, this is my inner Zelda nerd talking, but I see ice + bow + arrows and immediately go OMFG ICE ARROWS FROM OCARINA OF TIME. And now I’m totally losing my mind and seeing Tadashi eventually conquering his fear of fire and he ends up with fire arrows and fire powers as well as the ice powers and now he’s basically Twinrova and where was I going with this, I had a point.

His sleeping mind decides that Tadashi is dead because he never hears his voice (actually Tadashi’s rendered mute by an exploding thing slashing his throat) and that the fire was set by a supervillain because dream logic. At first he thinks the villain is Krei, then he decides that it must be Callaghan who wants revenge for his daughter’s death at the hands of Krei. (Actually Abigail is fine, she just doesn’t like bot-fighting anymore. And Callaghan is mad at Krei due to a bad break-up. )

Tadashi manages to get permission to bring Baymax in a few weeks into Hiro’s coma, and that’s when Hiro dreams of activating Baymax by stubbing his toe. When Baymax can’t come due to needing repairs Hiro decides he died. Then he heard that Baymax needed repairs, and dreamed that he’d hidden his chip in the glove somehow and that he was rebuilding Baymax. Shortly after Baymax came back (both in the dream and in reality) Hiro woke up, extremely confused. Then he got even MORE confused. Then he got mad that NONE OF THE NICE BONDING AND IN JOKES HAPPENED DAMN IT. He still giggles whenever red lights are brought up, and does a very good impression of a furious Gogo when asked why. ‘THERE ARE NO RED LIGHTS, IN A CAR CHASE!’

(Aaah, Tadashi’s throat! AAAAAH

I imagine that would be REALLY confusing for Hiro though. He’d keep turning to people and saying stuff like “Remember that time when...” and they’d just look at him funny and shake their heads. And he’d get this pouty sadface because whoops, coma dream again.

I think it again would depend. Like, if the doctors had been optimistic that Hiro would recover, and Tadashi was just kind of sitting around and waiting for Hiro to wake up, he’d probably open with something like “Hey knucklehead. Way to look both ways” or something teasing. He’d still be ridiculously relieved to see Hiro awake, especially after 2 months, but there would have been slightly less uncertainty, and so I figure he’d have had time to plan something “cool” as his first line.

(Fred is disappointed Tadashi didn’t go through with his idea of trying to convince Hiro he’s in the far future now. GoGo smacks him)

Now, if it was less uncertain if Hiro would ever wake up again (maybe there was a lot of swelling, lot of injury, idk), Tadashi probably wouldn’t say anything once Hiro woke up. He’d just break down crying because he was starting to think Hiro never would wake up again. It would probably also take him a long time to calm down, which means someone else (maybe a nurse, maybe Aunt Cass, maybe Baymax) would have to explain what had happened because I’m sure Hiro would be confused.

Oooh, but didn’t die? Just got SERIOUSLY injured you say? That’s almost WORSE.

But let’s run with it, and say it was Hiro that got hurt. Tadashi was obviously burned by the blast as well, he was right there too after all, but Hiro got hit in the head with a piece of debris that flew right at his face, and it knocked him into a coma.

The rest of the movie plays out largely as it did before, only with Tadashi in Hiro’s role, and eventually Callaghan is stopped, Abigail is saved, etc. But Hiro hasn’t woken up yet.

And when Tadashi finally stumbles into the hospital, tired from the battle, but pleased to tell his little brother he’s been avenged, Aunt Cass is there. And she’s crying.

The doctors are sorry, so sorry, but the swelling in Hiro’s brain has finally gone down enough for them to assess, and his brother’s mind is gone. Even if he wakes up, he’s completely brain dead. Tadashi’s baby brother is gone forever.
