ok fanfic title: "Life and other accidents"
my immediate thought is a modern au fic from the perspective of jack and ed's like, 16-17yo daughter experiencing old gay man relationship drama. ed and jack split when she was very very little. ed is her primary caretaker and jack sort of flits in and out of the picture like a deadbeat dad. ed and stede have some kind of meet-cute and fall in love, and jack, who's been in love with ed this whole time even tho he'd never admit it to himself, develops a rivalry with stede. stede is trying way, way too hard to be a stepdad and she absolutely fucking hates it. maybe she has a heart-to-heart with alma at some point about how stede's kind of cringe and lame but he is trying really hard and means well.
ed starts to get really pissed off by jack and stede's dick measuring contest and maybe has a fight with each of them about it. the daughter has some deep convos with each of the three of them: telling ed he deserves love and if stede makes him happy, then she's happy, telling jack to grow the fuck up, and telling stede that if he ever hurts ed they'll never find his body. eventually the three of them work it out and the daughter's glad she'll be going to college soon.
