So I often get asked what studies or research I made to be able to talk about shifting the way I do. In this post, that's exactly what I'm going to explain in details.
Based on evolution â perception â quantum oddities â neuroplasticity â placebo/psychedelics, and how everything translate in shifting. This will be a long post, but it's also super interesting to understand shifting Shifting is not something that can be directly completely proven since it implies other realities, but it has already been proven WITHIN this reality through many different studies and forms, people just haven't made the direct link berween all of them yet. Part of why is because shittokers are just teenagers creating content, not trust worthy people, no offence.
What you experience as reality is a constructed, filtered, and negotiable model. That model is formed by evolution, shaped by a nervous system built for survival, updated by learning rules (Hebbian plasticity), and occasionally punctured by quantum mechanies' thought experiments and psychoactive states. Taken together, these facts do show that perception is partial, malleable, and sometimes manipulable, even if they directly don't prove shifting.
Shifting is as a disciplined practice, a mixture of perceptual engineering, belief architecture, and cognitive technique.
CAREFUL, belief architecture dosent mean that what you believe in is automatically real. Shifting is infinite, but the reality you currently are in is not, and it has rules (go see my post about the real nature of Belief, Symptoms and Shifting).
1- Evolution and the "useful illusion" model of perception: Evolution didn't give organisms a truth detector. It gave them a fitness detector, sensory and cognitive systems that deliver signals useful for surviving and reproducing in a particular niche. Eyes, cars, and brains evolved nor to capture absolute reality, but to extract information that reliably predicts rewards and hazards. Which means: what you perceive is a compressed summary optimized for ancestral tasks, not a faithful map of the total available information. Your reality you are aware of is your subconscious expectations.
The "baseline reality" you're starting from is already a tuned, prioritized slice of possible stimuli (meaning you constantly shift (based on your subconscious expectations) and that there is no "original" reality), If you want to access other slices (different states, different senses, alternate realities), you must actively retune the filters. That's what deliberate practices (visualization, sensory substitution, meditation, set & setting) do, they change the set of inputs and the weight the brain gives them (they influence your subconscious expectations, so your reality's outcome).
2- The brain as filter: neuroscience, prediction and compression. Modern neuroscience often frames perception as predictive coding: the brain constantly generates hypotheses about incoming input and only encodes the unexpected errors, the deviations that matter (basically, all the possible outcomes based on your subconscious expectations). This saves energy and makes behavior efficient.
The "default mode network" and higher cortical circuits stitch fragments into a continuous narrative (just like you are constantly shifting, but so constantly that it's fluid (go see my second video about symptoms)); ephemeral sensations are suppressed if they contradict the model.
When the model relaxes (meditation, psychedelics, sleep. sensory deprivation), the suppressed information leaks through. That's why psychedelic experiences (SUCH AS THE VOID STATE, which is a psychedelic experience) feel like reality expanding: the predictive model's gain is lowered and bottom-up signals carry more weight (but its not, the void state is not a shift, and you are not leaving this reality or entering any other one).
Psychedelics states (such as void state) also appear to break pachological loops (rumination, rigid self-narratives), which may explain clinical benefits in depression/PTSD trials. In Shifting translation: lowering the predictive model's rigidity is one route to shift (basically, change your subconscious usual expectations (your "CR.") to new expectations (your DR)).
The practice doesn't have to be chemical (breath-work, extended focused attention, lucid dream induction, or sensory) tricks can reduce top-down certainty and allow alternate experiences to consolidate. You're deliberately "loosening" the real-world consensus model so alternative scenes can take hold (go see my 2 post about the true power of your subconscious)
3- Quantum mechanies, metaphor VS mechanism: Particles exist in multiple states (superposition) until observed, and the act of observing collapses them into one state. In simple terms: Reality isn't fixed, It waits for an observer to give it shape. Now, when we apply that to shifting, when you shift, you are choosing which version of reality you collapse into. The fact that particles don't "decide" their state until observed lines up with the idea that your consciousness is the selector, the navigator through the universe.
You're not passively stuck in one reality; you're actively engaging in the "multiverse". In this sense every DR you shift to, already exists, but it's your observation that brings it into your personal experience (go see my post about explaining some concepts to you, part 2). Observation and interaction change behavior. Important clarification: physics' observer effect is not a mystical human-will-over-matter trick. "Observation" in quantum mechanics is any interaction that causes decoherence, the particle coupling to an environment. It does not require human consciousness.
BUT the metaphor still has conceptual value. Quantum indeterminacy shows that fundamental description can be probabilistic and context-dependent; in cognition, the brain's model functions similarly, it contains many potential interpretations (superpositions) that collapse into one perceived outcome when a decision, attention, or measurement. For the purposes of shifting, the operative mechanism is cognitive selection, not microscopic quantum magic.
Foundational QM experiments show the physics oddity; they don't, by themselves, validate metaphysical claims about consciousness collapsing reality. Shifting translation: think of your mind as a probabilistic engine that holds many possible worlds in latent form. The techniques of shifting are ways to bias, weight, and then collapse those latent possibilities into a coherent experiential trajectory made (the infinity of possibility, crashing into one outcome based on your subconscious expectations).
4- Sensory horizons: other animals see different "realities". Different animals literally sense different slices of the world, dogs hear different frequencies, crustaceans have distinct spectral sensitivities, birds and insects see ultraviolet or polarized light that is invisible to humans.
Those examples underscore a practical point: the arena of what's "real" is partly determined by the sensorium you possess. To change the world you experience, either change sensors (prosthetics, technology) or change the interpretation (training, conditioning (YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS EXPECTATIONS)).
For instance, dogs have dichromatic vision (rwo cone classes) so their color map differs from ours. Lobsters/ crayfish have spectral sensitivities tuned to aquatic light environments. These are not philosophical claims, they're biological measurements about sensory systems. Shifting translation; if you want to shift to a reality where colors are different, learn to attend to different features. Practice sensory imagery that accentuates spectral bands, textures, or other affordances until your internal model begins to include them as stable cues. Basically, change your subconscious expectations.
5- The cultural consensus: reality is socially negotiated. Human perception is embedded in culture, cognitive experiments like the dress white/gold VS black/blue show how context, lighting assumptions, and learned priors determine what people see. Societies also interpret unusual experiences differently: what Western psychiatry labels "psychosis" or "schizophrenia," other cultures may interpret as spiritual gifts. Much of reality is a negotiated consensus over shared priors and communicative conventions.
Materialism convinces you reality is external, fixed, and unchangeable, that the only way to control life is to control matter and that everything resides in the material goods Only matter is real. If you can't touch it, it doesn exist.
Consumption teaches you that your worth comes from what you own or how much you produce, attention, approval, not from your own being.
Capitalism and ownership instill the idea that you must earn access to comfort, peace, rest, and joy, and that the private property is everything.
Traditional religions, science and schooling frame divine power or truth as something outside of you, in a god, in an authority, in a textbook, but never in you. Tells you that you are broken, sinful, unworthy without interventions. Language, logic, and "commo sense" reduce reality to only what can be seen and measured, cutting off all intuitive, inner, or altered-state access.
It tells you that imagination and belief are childish or delusional and worshipping logic and linearity, while quantum mechanics (the most advanced science today) proves that reality is nonlinear and observer-dependent. This plants the deep subconscious and unconscious belief that you are separate from power when in reality, power flows throug you by nature.
Shifting translation: part of the reason your subconscious resists shifts (in the context of "shifting reality") is social inertia. If the external consensus refuses to validate an experience, it's harder for that experience to stabilize.
That's why reality shifters often create private spaces (, communities, group chat) where their shifts are accepted, those communities provide social reinforcement for alternate models (bew, go join our Discord Server, the link is at the end!)
6- Emergence VS Fundamentalism of consciousness: Why does it matter for shifters? Well, there is 2 big hypotheses about consciousness:
A) Emergence: consciousness arises from neutral information processing (Brain states casually produce subjective experience).
B) Fundamentalism: consciousness is a primitive, irreducible element of reality (dualism, panpsychism, or similar). The science shows tight correlation better brain activity and conscious content (lesion change awareness, simulation alters statesâŚ). But the real philosophical problem is : Why subjective experience feel like something remain unsolved.
Both of those hypotheses have implications. For instance, for practical shifting you donât need to commit philosophically. If consciousness is emergent, then targeted manipulation of brain states (neuromodulation, ect) can reliably change experience. But if itâs fundamental, shiftinf could reflect interaction with non-local aspects of the mind. But the technique still then still matters because it change the coupling between your self-system and whatever broader field exits. To summarize: both hypotheses motivate skillful practice (shifting).
7- Neuroplasticity: the mechanism of gradual shift. This is the workhouse: Hebbiam Plasticity = Neurons that fire together, wire together. Modern observation about long-term potentiation explains how repeated thinking, feeling and acting produce durable change in the brainâs wiring. Thatâs how habits form and how beliefs changes can translate into new perceptions. Thereâs evidence that meditation, visualization, gratitude journaling and cognitive reappraisal produce measurable brain changes and symptoms reduction in mood disorders.
In shifting, this means: shifting isnât just astonishing events, itâs the outcome of repeated cognitive acts that bias networks toward alternative attractors states. Religion harden the path.
8- Placebo, expectations and measurable physiological changes: the placebo phenomenon shows that beliefs and expectations can produce measurable changes in physiology, particularly in symptoms modulated by the brain (stress, pain, nausea, ect). Thereâs molecular and system-level evidence that expectancies engage endogenous opioid, dopaminegeric, and other neuromodulatory system, producing real effects. They can produce EEG changes, this demonstrates that subjective beliefs can casually alter brain-body dynamics in important and considĂŠrables ways.
In shifting translation: the role of (subconscious) expectation is not magic, itâs a neurobiological mechanism yoi can exploit. Is you habitually expect the shift (like my method train you to do) and practice âritualsâ that encode that expectation, the brain recruits neuromodulators and body signals that make the experience more likely.
9- Psychedelics, a lever that loosen top-down constraints (evidence & limits): recent clinical trials indicate that single ot few doses or psychedelics, (in the right context), can produce large and sometimes long-lasting reductions in depression and anxiety. Mechanistically, psychedelics (LSD, psylocybin, ect) transiently reduce activity in higher-order network, increase global cognitivity and promote neural plasticity. But the he evidence is mixed, still under scrutiny and not without safety concerns and methodological issues.
Psychedelics are a tool that can open windows, but they are not a universal shortcut. They work best in controlled âset and settingâ and often combined with therapeutic integration. In shifting translation: psychedelics can be thought of as a turbo-compressor that lowers top-down predictive certainty, increases entropy in perception, and makes new patterns more available to be encoded.
STILL, IM NOT ENCOURAGING ANYONE TO TAKE DR*GS AND I DONT WANT ANYONE TO START TAKING ANY, UNDER THE EXCUSE OF SHIFTING. IM EXPLAINING THIS BECAUSE ITS A PART OF UNDERSTANDING THE BEAIN. ITS FOR TEACHING PURPOSE ONLY, NOT FOR USAGE OR PRACTICE.
Also, itâs important to understand those psychedelic as a deliberate neuroplastic accelerator plus integration protocol, not as a magic solution. Shifting is something that you can do without taking any substance. Itâs something that you already do constantly. And taking psychedelics wonât necessarily helo you shift either. You donât need to take any substance, and if you consider to take some for shifting, YOU DO HAVE a REALLY TOXIC relationship with shifting reality and SHOULD REALLY take a break and GO SEE A PROFESSIONAL regarding mental health issues.
10- Practical architecture (basically how to convert theory into a reproducible shifting practice): here is a pragmatic map that reinterprets the science for shifting:
A) Define the target attractor: Be specific about the scene, sensory details, affective state, bodily micro-actions, and social roles. The brain learns through patterns; the more detailed the pattern, the easier it is to reproduce.
B) Design repetition that drives Hebbian change: Daily micro-practices that activate the target ensemble: vivid visualization (sensory-first), micro-behaviors (posture, facial expression), vocal scripts (phrases you say to yourself), and emotional anchoring (a physical anchor like touch or a scent).
C) Use expectation and ritual to engage placebo-like pathways: Rituals arenât superstition, they are more like a powerful contextual signals that condition expectancy. Use deliberate, reproducible rituals to mark the transition into shift practice. For instance, clap hard 3 times. I can be literally anything.
D) Modulate top-down gain: Practices to lower predictive certainty: breathwork, sensory reduction (blindfolding,ect), meditation, hypnagogic techniques. NO PSYCHEDELICS. These increase bottom-up signal weight and allow new associations to form.
E) Consolidate with integration: After a shift, immediately write, draw, or voice, record the experience. Integration practices (journaling, behavioral experiments in waking life, dream incubation before sleep) convert transient experiences into long-term wiring.
F) Social scaffolding: If you want a reality that persists, you need social reinforcement. For instance, online groups (join the Discord server!) that validate your shifts and provide corrective feedback.
G) Objective testing & calibration: Use small behavioral tests. Does a shifted self behave a little differently in waking life? Are there measurable changes in mood, habits, or skills? Keep a record and refine practices using that data (because yes when you wake up and feel weird/different, you mostly just shifted in a different self).
11- Example of technique:
A) pick a small percept (color, texture). For 10 minutes/day, intensely imagine its look, sound, smell, and tactile properties. Anchor the image with a small gesture. Repeat 30 days. This builds a matched sensory network. It helo with visualisation, but with making your subconscious feel the thing even if itâs not in your hand.
B) sit quietly, breathe slowly, imagine a familiar scene. At the point of certainty, deliberately introduce a small impossible detail (ex: a purple sun). Hold the surprise. Repeat this to train your tolerance for novelty.
C) create a consistent environment for shifting practice: same room, same lighting, a specific necklace that you wears. Use this sequence to condition a transition state. This trains your subconscious to expect a shift depending on the environment.
12- What the science explain (of shifting):
You can change experience by changing attention and repetition (neuroplasticity).
You can change subjective outcomes via expectation/placebo mechanisms, especially for brain-modulated symptoms.
You can open perception windows via practices, which temporarily relax the brainâs predictive filter and let âalternateâ patterns stabilize.
Basically, the world you call âreal worldâ is not a photograph, itâs an edited film produced by your nervous system, your culture, and the histories lodged in your synapses. Quantum physics and clinical neuroscience both poke holes in the complacent idea that PERCEPTION EQUAL REALITY. Not because the cosmos is deliberately hiding itself from you, but because your mind reduces complexity into usable patterns. Shifting is simply intentional engineering of those patterns: specifying a target reality, rehearsing it until your neural circuits encode it, loosening the brainâs certainty long enough for the new pattern to emerge (subconscious expectations), and integrating the result into a life that you can experience. Hi, @fischotterkunst! It's a messy topic, to be sure, but here's what I've been seeing of these AI-generated texts, at least on Amazon:
--If you sort your search for "foraging book" or "mushroom hunting" or whatever search string you use by "Newest Arrivals", you'll notice that there is a glut of books that have come out in the past few weeks. Yes, there are always new books, but this is at a higher than normal rate, which suggests AI is behind at least some of them. There ARE occasionally real authors' books that just happened to come out recently, so don't dismiss every single book that is a fresh release. Use the other criteria below.
--They will invariably be self-published or from some publisher with zero online presence. Not a problem by itself; my own chapbooks are self-published on Amazon KDP. But they come out every three months, not every three days, because I am researching, writing, and editing them all myself, rather than churning out content with AI.
--The titles and subtitles are often very long and stuffed with keywords. They are obviously optimized for search engines rather than being descriptive of the book and they have a rather clunky fashion.
--Look for obvious typos and other errors; for example, in the image above we have "WILD MUSHROOM COOKBOOK FOR BEGINNER: The complete guide on mushroom foraging and cooking with delicious recipes to enjoy your favorite". It should be "for beginners", and the subtitle just...ends prematurely. Favorite what? Favorite mushrooms? Favorite cartoon characters? Favorite color? Also, while there are lot of variations on name spellings, "Magaret" instead of "Margaret" stands out as a possible fake in combination with other clues. (All her other books also have this spelling, though.)
--This is a BIG one: Who's the author? Check their bio. In the above image you'll see that "Jason Cones", the author of "The Wild Edible Plants Forager's Handbook: A Beginner's Guide to Safe Foraging, Including How to Identify Edible Plants, Learn About Their Medicinal Properties, and Prepare Them for Cooking", has a very generic picture and bio that has pretty obviously been generated by AI. If you search for him online, the only page for an author named Jason Cones is the Amazon author page--no website, no social media, no interviews, nada. Even a brand new author will at least have something other than their Amazon page, and they'll mention experience, credentials, other biographical info.
--Look at the author's other books. Magaret seems to focus on cookbooks of very specific sorts, but again they've all come out in a very short time. They also tend to often be on really super-specific niche subjects--this, again, is not a red flag in and of itself, but it's a common pattern with AI "authors". Jason Cones, on the other hand, has written over two dozen books not just about foraging but anger management techniques, acupressure, and weed gummies, and all of his titles have come out since last December.
--If all the books have the same cover but slight differences in title, it's also a big red flag. There are reputable publishers of regional foraging guides like Timber Press, but their books are written by multiple authors and have come out over a long stretch of years (plus they're a well-known publisher with a solid track record, online presence, etc.) Also notice the typos in the title and subtitle; everyone says "Mushroom Foraging", not "Mushrooms Foraging", and "Keep Track Your Mushroom Sightings" is missing "of".
--Compare the descriptions of multiples of these new books and you start seeing patterns. If you look at the images above, you'll notice that both Lorna K. Thompson's "Foraging Recipe Cookbook" and Kevin Page's "The Ultimate Foraging Guide for Seniors" have a very similar formulaic description. They start with a brief story about a person in a town or village who discovers some foraging secrets and then transforms his life, and then a list of things you're supposedly going to find in this seemingly miraculous book. This basically reads like "Hey, ChatGPT, tell me a story of a person who improved their life with foraging in two hundred words or less!" Also, the ends got cut off of my screen shot, but they both end with "GET YOUR COPY TODAY!"
I have not purchased any of these books to verify how awful the content is, but what little content I can see in the previews is uniformly formulaic and, again, reads like someone asked an AI to write content on a topic with some specific keywords thrown in. Needless to say, I do NOT recommend any of these books.
Also, I feel really bad for any actual authors who released their books in the past few months. They're likely getting drowned out by this AI junk, though hopefully they're getting enough attention for their work through their publishers, social media, etc. to get some sales. Support your real-life authors, and boycott AI!
Finally, PLEASE reblog this! It's really, really important that people know what to look for, and the more posts we have floating around with this info, the less likely it is someone's going to get poisoned by following what these books have to say.

Macs are generally considered at less risk for malware due to their proprietary software and, frankly, smaller hold of the market share (at least with computers; iPhones on the other handâŚ). But less risk is still some risk. And with the growing prevalence of AI use providing a vector, type of operating system is starting to have nothing to do with safety. The most recent example is the ongoing AMOS attack via OpenAI and Grok.
Atomic macOS Stealer (AMOS) itself isnât new, it was first reported on in 2023. Unlike other AI-generated malware campaigns, this isnât using prompt injection, but instead is utilizing weaponized AI through a ClickFix attack. A search for common troubleshooting help will result in AI generated guides. The link to the guide looks legitimate but has been produced via search engine optimization (SEO) poisoning, a tactic used to make malicious sites look and act genuine to further the reach of their payload. Often these links will be at the top of a search page, which reduces the likelihood that users will search more thoroughly before clicking on them.
AMOS is an infostealer, the fastest growing cyberthreat of this year, according to an earlier Kapersky report. This family harvests passwords, cookies, documents and other credentials from infected devices and is one of the man-in-the-middle tools for ransomware campaigns. This particular offshoot of the family tree also uses âliving-off-the-landâ to harvest credentials without a graphical prompt. It employs the native dscl utility to validate the userâs password silently in the background, according to Cyber Security Newsâ report, which goes into further detail on how AMOS accomplishes its execution.
There are a couple of main takeaways from this news:
SEO poisoning is cross-platform, since itâs a common tactic across Windows compromises as well as macOS. Itâs the backbone of malvertising that is so often used in todayâs phishing attempts. Iâve reported before on malicious npm and APK packages that use this technique.
But more importantly, follow the age old internet safety rule of do not click an untrusted link. And never comply with a âguideâ that urges one to copy and paste anything into a command line or terminal.
Itâs easy to say âdonât do this if you donât understand itâ as a warning against falling for phishing or ClickFix schemes, but that has more than a touch of competency bias attached to it. Iâve often stated that computer literacy is dropping. The average person on the street does not know how their device does what it does, nor are they fluent in the language in which many of these codes are written. This is why I write these reports, to help educate the layperson.
Legitimate helpdesk guides will come from the vendor â or at least be included in a subreddit thread â and not an AI-generated result. This campaign is banking on user trust of AI, but that trust is misplaced already considering how often these tools have inaccurate information in their aggregation or contradict themselves. Kaperskyâs report on AMOS even states that querying whether or not the actions presented by this attack are safe â while in the chatbox to execute it â will return with a ânoâ.
