They were in some small but carefully kept roadside motel just outside Calloway, Virginia, one more stepping stone to yet another strange place further on. One more break in the asphalt ribbon that served as their yellow brick road, that ephemeral promise of an end somewhere, somewhen, an idea other than that the road went ever on. Waiting for their real lives to begin, or end so fast that it didn’t matter anymore.

ive spent the day so far reading groundhog day fics... holy shit man. there are such talented writers out here... i swear, the last outpost of all that is, has set the top bar for anything, fic or no, that i will ever read. it is the crowning pinnacle of everything that ive had the fortune of reading. if anyone knows if gekizetsu has a place that they update, i would greatly appreciate you linking me it. this person needs to know my love for them.
This is a long AU Wincest rec, Last Outpost of All That Is by gekizetsu. Basically the world ends while the Winchester brothers are asleep, sometime around season 2, I’d guess, and they wake to an empty Earth. They’re the last humans. But Winchesters are born and raised to survive, so they carry on and make a life. Wincest is a slow burn, a given in this empty world with no one to judge or come between them.
It’s a long, beautiful, angsty fic about two brothers who have spent their entire lives with no one but each other, and now they truly have no one else because for better or worse, the Rapture or something more sinister, humanity and monsters have abandoned them.
Part of me wonders if this is how the series should end. Sam and Dean, alone on the Earth with the Impala. Just the central theme of Supernatural. Two brothers, their car and the empty road.
But this ending would deny them the small satisfaction of all those they've saved, of all the people whose simple lives make the Winchesters’ sacrifices worth it. That’s the angst of this fic for me, that Sam and Dean don’t know what happened. They don’t know if they’re lives matter, if all the pain and scars are worth it.
But they make a home together, they love each other. God, they’re the sun and the moon forever entangled. Ugh, Wincest makes me unnecessarily maudlin.
