What makes me sick is how effortlessly amiable Palpatine is. He seems like a person you'd come for advice to, like a person you can trust your biggest secrets with. Someone who won't judge you and will give you support you long for. He will be there when no one else would.
Like really, just look at him. Palpatine could kill with his charm alone. He has this positive aura around him, and don't get me started on his damn smile. He makes himself look so reliable it's nearly impossible to tell him no. And I despise it. Because as much as I favor fictional villains, people like them exist in real life, and this is the worst type so far. Palpatine plays with your feelings however he wants and easily notices the weak spots. He knows what to say to keep you by his side. By the time you realize you are being used, it's already too late. The connection has already been established, one-sided as it is. Leaving people like Palpatine feels like suicide for your heart. And they're aware of it and they will milk it until you're replaced by another victim with a similar mindset. Meanwhile your only crime is that you loved them.
So yeah, can't blame Anakin for how painfully attached he became... not sure I would act differently if I were him.
