what she says: I’m fine
what she means: In Mass Effect 3 during Priority: Citadel II Garrus says,"Ridgefield? Lamont? You alive?" because, as a former c-sec member, a lot of the c-sec officers were his coworkers and friends. Walking through the citadel during/after the Cerberus coup must have been a TOTAL NIGHTMARE for Garrus (even though he is no stranger to seeing his friends lying dead on the floor) but he doesn’t complain. He never brings it up again. He doesn’t want to burden anyone with his trauma because he knows that there are bigger things to deal with. How many friends has he lost total since this whole thing began? Shepard, the Normandy crew, his gang when he was Archangel including Sidonis and now all his old friends at c-sec? And even though he’s an admitted pessimist, before the final run to the beam he actually acts optimistic about their chances. Because he knows they’re all probably going to die anyway. Because everyone Garrus Vakarian ever loves ends up dead
You better be, Vakarian. Or she will kick your fine turian ass to bring you back to where you belong. At her side. She needs you more than she can tell.
“Do I really sound like that ?”
My favorite thing about Garrus is that Shepard can be extremely vulnerable in front of him and he doesn’t judge or coddle them. He always tells them what he believes no matter how honest ("yeah, Shepard, it's going to be REALLY hard"). At the same time, he reminds them of who they are and what they are capable of. He doesn't let them focus on their doubts and fears but he acknowledges and treats those seriously. And I think Shepard knows this, which is why they confide in him so often and have those "but now that it's just you and me, what do you think about our chances?" conversations.
And if Garrus idolizes Shepard at first, he has his own character development that means that in the end, he can see them for who they really are. Shepard doesn’t have to be the bravest or the toughest. They don't have to prove anything. They can just be themselves (with their good and bad sides, trauma and pain, joy and love). He accepts them for who they are. That’s very rare and precious.

There is no one without the other. It’s something that is never said out loud, but is none the less tactically understand by the whole of the Normandy.
When they are together, their eyes find each other, their hands brushing against each other, the smallest touches that say ‘I am here. It is safe.’ Apart, they check communications frequently, his voice in her helmet, her vital signs displayed on his visor.
Down time, when it happens, finds them inseparable, a bright streak of red hair followed by equally vivid blue facial markings. Neither overshadows the other; they are a complement to each other.
Yet they are not obvious about it. They don’t fall apart when the other is missing. There is loneliness, but nothing incapable of standing on its own. They are too used to their own solitude to find it devastating.
When she shoots, he follows up. When he reloads, she covers his back.
There is no Shepard without Vakarian, and they would not have it any other way.
“For whatever it’s worth, I’m with you.”

Day 3- The Space Between
“It`s much easier to see the world in black and white. Grey? I don`t know what to do with grey...“
There is only one word that come in my mind to describe Archangel - broken.
