Whumpees with cats…
Angry whumpees with old beat up tomcats that follow them around. They both act like they hate the other but when the nights are cold and scary and they both remember how it feels to be vulnerable and defenseless, they curl up against each other and wait for morning.
Quiet, timid whumpees listening to a very loud and opinionated cat, watching as the caretaker cooed and chatted with it, and wondering why someone with so much power did not silence it. Then wondering if they might speak without being silenced as well.
A perfectly conditioned whumpee and their well trained cat. It warned whenever whumper was coming, or in a bad mood, or both. It ran when whumpee told it to, and it curled under whumpees arm once the damage was done.
Whumpee “stealing away” the whumpers cat because unlike the whumper, they gave it attention and affection and not just food. And when the whumpee finally escapes or gets rescued, they cling onto now their cat as they go.
Caretakers who really don’t know what they’re doing taking their lead from how to treat the cat, so they treat the rescue cat and the rescue whumpee the same basically. Food and water regularly accessible, a comfy “safe” bed where they could feel hidden that the caretaker is careful not to disturb, and just lets them start any contact other than a few gentle words. Once the cat starts rubbing around the caretakers legs, whumpee starts to talk more. The recovery of both happens parallel.
Just, whumpees with cats.
