Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) faced backlash online after announcing his Senate candidacy with an advertisement that contained a glaring typo.In
We're already seeing the effects of Trump's attempts to shut down the Department of Education. š
A MAGA House member from Georgia misspelled G-E-O-R-G-I-A when announcing his run for the US Senate in the 2026 midterms.
Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) faced backlash online after announcing his Senate candidacy with an advertisement that contained a glaring typo. In a message posted to X on Sunday, Collins said he was "ready to put the hammer down and get it done." The post included an ad that misspelled the name of Collins' state: "Georiga."
Maybe Mike Collins thinks he's running for the Latvian Senate from RIGA.
According to the Athens Banner-Herald...
It's unclear if the video will be revised or taken down, but as of Tuesday morning, it's still up with more than 460,000 views. Here are some comments from the more critical viewers: ⢠"Spell Georgia right, and maybe we'll take it seriously." ⢠"Knowing how to spell the name of your own state should at least be a baseline requirement for running for the Senate."
Possibly Collins left it up because he didn't think most people who would vote for him would notice.
A key Republican was caught on a hot mic saying that Trump is in the Epstein files.
Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA-10) is a candidate for US Senate in addition to being a current House member. He said of Trump and the Epstein files:
"Yeah, he's in there."
Hot Mic Catches Republican Saying Trump Is in the Epstein Files
MAGA lawmaker Mike Collins lobbed a political grenade into efforts from Team Trump to limit his exposure to fallout from the Epstein files. Georgia Rep. Collins made a bombshell admission, that he believes Donald Trumpās name will be in the files, at a county GOP meeting, the Washington Examiner reported. A constituent asked the MAGA lawmaker whether he believed Trump was in the files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender who died by suicide while in federal custody in New York City in August 2019 as he awaited trial on new sex trafficking charges. āYeah, Iām sure heās in there,ā Collins said, without providing evidence, according to an audio clip of the exchange uploaded to YouTube, titled, āHOT MIC: Republican caught saying Trump IS IN THE EPSTEIN FILES!ā
So Collins has been described as "a conservative firebrand" and calls himself a "MAGA warrior". So for such a Republican to admit that Trump is as guilty as sin, says a lot about the public Trump-Epstein whitewash in the GOP. Republicans know Trump is a pedophile but support him anyway.
Anti-migrant rhetoric has reached the point of a congressman citing a far-right meme about Augusto Pinochetās death-flights
Trump is promising to be a dictator and his supporters are expressing support for crimes against humanity committed by the late Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
Three years ago, the Intercept published an illuminating article about the rise of the āHoppean snakeā among far-right extremists, a meme which the Intercept labelled especially ādisturbing for its frightening historical referenceā. For the uninitiated, the Hoppean Snake in its various forms usually depicts a serpent wearing the military hat of the American-backed Chilean dictator Gen Augusto Pinochet in the foreground while figures are dropping out of helicopters to their death in the background. The meme specifically refers to Pinochetās known strategy of kidnapping, torturing, killing, and ā hereās the point ā throwing his political opponents out of helicopters and into the ocean to dispose of them. The Intercept noted that many groups and individuals on the far right, such as the āBoogaloo Bois, Proud Boys, Three Percenters, Oath Keepers, armed Trumpists, and the like wear T-shirts that offer āfree helicopter ridesā.ā and when they do so, āthey are referencing a program of extermination.ā Itās alarming to see such rhetoric from the far-right fringes; imagine seeing this kind of political violence being advocated by a sitting politician or someone seeking the highest office in the land. Well, you donāt have to imagine it any more. Last week, the Republican congressman Mike Collins of Georgia did just that. On Twitter/X,, Collins commented on a widely circulated picture of Jhoan Boada, a man who was recently arrested for allegedly assaulting two police officers in New York City outside a migrant shelter. Boada was one of seven men arrested, and multiple reports refer to him as a āmigrantā. After leaving court, Boada was photographed raising his two middle fingers to reporters as he walked away. The picture prompted Republican congressman Anthony DāEsposito of New York to offer the racist riposte: āWe feel the same way about you. Holla at the cartels and have them escort you back.ā Collins then joined in. āOr we could buy him a ticket on Pinochet Air for a free helicopter ride back,ā he wrote. As HuffPostās Christopher Mathias, who covers the far right, put it on X: āSo we have a congressman joking or not joking about extrajudicially executing a migrant arrested for a crime (allegedly assaulting a cop) that tons of non-migrant citizens get arrested for too.ā Mathias also notes that the āfree helicopter rideā meme has been popular with white supremacists and neo-fascists for about the last seven years. [ ... ] Jews, Muslims, immigrants ā everything is a threat. Violence is the solution. Opponents should be assassinated. Fascists are role models. Welcome to the Republican party in the year 2024.
Pinochet was a general who seized power in Chile in 1973. Very likely he had backing from the Nixon administration which was in the midst of Watergate. Pinochet immediately set about torturing and murdering his opponents. He remained in power until 1990 when he lost a referendum on whether he should remain as dictator. He actually expected to win that referendum or he wouldn't have held it; such is the self-delusion of the far right.
Once a dictator comes to power, there are few controls over when he or she leaves. People should believe Trump and his lickspittles when they talk dictatorship.
Snooty ideological purists who condone voting for impotent third parties or sitting out the 2024 election should be publicly scorned.
If Biden wins then you know there will be a free and fair election in 2028. If Trump wins, the best you can expect is a Russia-style election where Putin chooses who his opponents will be.
NOTE: Rep. Anthony DāEsposito, who made that racist reply to Rep. Mike Collins, represents NY-04 which is a swing seat south of NY-03 which was formerly represented by fabulist George Santos. NY-04 has a Cook Partisan Voter Index of D+5; Joe Biden got 56.8% of the vote there. So in case you need it, here's the site of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Join Our Campaign to Defeat Trump's Republican Agenda
Ā According to the Associated Press, University of Georgia scientists and conservative talk-radio host Neil Boortz have found themselves to be unlikely allies in an effort to boost Darwin as a write-in candidate for voters who want to lodge a protest against the ultra-conservative Broun.
James Leebens-Mack, theĀ UGA plant biologist who started a Facebook page supporting Darwin against Broun, told Raw Story in an interview, āQuite a few folks independently came up with the idea to start a write-in campaign, very conservative and very liberal.ā
Leebens-Mack said that heād be happy if write-ins for Darwin would constitute 1 percent of the vote, which he feels would be enough āto let both the Democratic and Republican parties know that weāre not happy that Paul Broun is our only choice in the 10th Congressional District of Georgia.ā
The professor, who declined to give his own party affiliation, said that the bipartisan protest arose separately from the campaign organized by Boortz, the Atlanta-based radio host, who has a massive following among Georgia conservatives. Ā Boortz told listeners that ideologues like Broun are bad for the Republican Party, and that they make conservatives ālook like knee-dragging, still-tending, tobacco-spitting Neanderthals.ā
In remarks recorded at a September 27 fundraiser atĀ Liberty Baptist Church of Hartwell, Georgia, Broun told the assembled group, āGodās word is true. Ā Iāve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell. And itās lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior.ā
Broun is a medical doctor, but does not have admitting privileges at any hospital in the state of Georgia.
