This is gonna be a long post, so let’s get started, shall we?

Under Appreciated: Stranded by Syrupwit (Gaz/Gretchen/Tak Invader Zim Rated E for upcoming sexually explicit content (the fic is completely SFW thus far though- still, please be mindful)) But Chip, I hear you saying, ANOTHER rec for Syrupwit? Didn’t you share a link to, like, an entire series by them a few days ago? To which I say listen. Listen. Syrupwit is an incredibly talented writer, just, in general, I would happily recommend pretty much anything they’ve written, and the prompt here is Under Appreciated- and this particular fic is criminally under appreciated. It follows my girl Gretchen as she returns from university to her hometown over the summer and winds up getting a part-time job in the same place as her old skool crush, Dib. And wherever the Membrane siblings go, weirdness isn’t far behind, so it isn’t long before poor Gretchen finds herself mind controlled by an honest-to-goodness alien and rescued by Dib’s sister (cuz Dib may or may not be too busy running away from his own emotional problems chasing ghosts in the basement to step in XD) As always, Syrupwit’s worldbuilding is impeccable and characterizations are on point. This little gem deserves so much more love than it’s gotten.

Post Canon: Truth Serum Time- I couldn’t pick just one, so you get 4 (consider it making up for the lack of recs over the past few days lol)

A Love Like WAR by lestat_wesker (Dib/Zim Invader Zim Rated E for reasons I assume are going to pop up in later chapters. Unfinished) We’ll start with the most recent- There is so much creativity and heart put into the backstory of this fic. You’ll often run into Zim being written as Very Clever OR Very Stupid, but it’s a rare thing to find a writer who strikes a balance of both like Lestat does here XD I don’t want to give away too much, because this fic definitely keeps you on your toes, but Zim finds out the entire blame for the Florpus Incident has unfairly (quite fairly tbh) been pinned solely on HIM, and he can’t even defend himself since he’s been listed as deceased back on Irk. Well, what other choice does he have BUT to head back and clear his good name? There’s absolutely no possibly way for that plan to backfire spectacularly. For real, I don’t normally have the patience or focus to keep up with super long slow burn fics, but I’m so glad I jumped into this one, and I legit can’t wait to see where it goes!

Space Trash by aperfecttimeforscreaming (GraveCounselor) (Dib/Zim Invader Zim Rated E for graphic depictions of blood & gore, violence, enemies to lovers, major character death, and sexual content. For real real, out of every rec I’ve posted, this fic above all others definitely earns that Explicit rating so if any of those tags squick you please proceed with caution. Unfinished) I adore this fic, it really stands out from the flock. (omg, I actually got sucked into re-reading it again instead of finishing writing this lol) A darker take on the IZ verse’s future (and, frankly, probably the most canon-compliant one), it’s grimly satisfying to watch Dib be a terrible feral garbage man (which also makes the moments when his edges soften all the more gratifying too). Thirteen years after Zim was taken away from Earth by Irken Enforcers, Dib has cut all ties with his former life and is squatting in Zim’s old base, when his old childhood nemesis unexpectedly returns. Imaginative and compellingly written, and not quite like anything else I’ve encountered, and it’s one of my all-time favs.

Least Friend (Or Five Times Zim Was Genuinely Scary) by Largishcat (Dib/Zim (pre-slash) Invader Zim Rated M for graphic depictions of violence, gore, and animal death. Complete) I know I said I wasn’t going to link the more well-known fics here, but I have to give a shout out to this one. If a complete stranger approached me and said they’d never read a fanfic in their lives and asked me what a good starter into the the world of IZ fics would be, this one would definitely make it into my top five suggestions. Basically, Dib gets a very rude awakening to what a threat Zim actually can be, if he chooses to take things seriously. It’s got well over 1000 kudos for a reason, Largishcat is a heccin talented writer, and I def can’t recommend this fic enough.

And, finally, Yggdrasill Dreaming by Barkour (Loki/Sif Thor(2011) Rated T. Complete) Man, this fic was posted shortly after the first Thor movie came out ten whole-ass years ago and centers around a pairing I’m not even that invested in, yet here we are; I still think about this fic a whopping decade after first reading it. It follows Sif as she searches for Loki (presumed dead) after he’d fallen from the Rainbow Bridge. This stands out so much in my mind as it leans into actual mythology more than Marvel canon, and the end result is a very whimsical work that reads more like a fairy tale than a fanfic. Needless to say, it made a lasting impression on me lol

Death: time abyss by curtailed (Dib/Zim Invader Zim Rated M for maybe/maybe-not character death, some violence and sexual content. Unfinished) Curtailed cracks it out of the park with another gripping murder mystery- this time, with Zim travelling across the universe trying to unravel what happened to Dib following a series of clues Deb left behind for him in his final video. I adore this fic with everything in me. Curtailed has a real talent & I’m deeply grateful they got invested in the same two dumb boys as I did lol XD

Day 3: Missing scene (Revali vs. Windblight Ganon)

Today's rec is one I've made before, but I simply cannot hype it enough: Where our shields lay shattered by @heleentje.

Every once in a while I see people talk smack about Revali because Windblight is the easiest of the blights to defeat. This fic answers the question "why did Revali die if he was so strong?", and it does so in a heartbreaking and canonically accurate way. Beautiful writing too, a must read if you love the mean bird.

2) AU: Mothballs by @gabriel-agreste-has-no-rights https://archiveofourown.org/works/23226613 Maybe not one of the wilder AU's (for someone who writes REALLY wild AU's, I don't seem to read that many.) But it's an enjoyable, short, piece on Hawkmoth having Moth Tendencies. It's really a lot of fun. I like how everything builds even with there being no real tension.
