So funny to me that in canon there are multiple people into real person shipping ZADF.
We tend to focus a lot on the relationship between Zim and Dib and how them getting together as friends or lovers would fulfill each other's needs and why it makes for such a compelling arc and has endured as a ship for decades. But I feel like Gaz tends to get overlooked when it comes to using ZADF or ZADR to resolve the narrative. Like, it's a happy ending for them if they get together, but what does that do for her? How does getting Zim as essentially a brother-in-law make her life better?
Gaz tends to get treated like a satellite character in the actual show whose only purpose is to be someone for Dib to deliver exposition to or give him a hard time in most episodes. But ZADR stories tend to do that a lot as well, with her purpose only being to be someone Zim and Dib can talk to when they can't talk to each other, and maybe dispensing some kind of sharp insight that helps them move their stories along, while not having an arc of her own.
I like the idea that maybe Zim can call her out on her "too cool to care" attitude and help bring her out of her shell. Like, she acts aloof and detached because she thinks her brother is cringe and doesn't want to be like him. But Zim loves all the stuff about Dib she thinks is embarrassing, like his passionate rambling about his interests, or the effort he puts into to trying to better humanity, no matter how much they disappoint him. He makes her realize that she doesn't have to isolate herself and use gaming as a cope to avoid dealing with the pain of her neglectful upbringing. If someone like Zim can love her brother with all of his faults, then maybe if she's willing to endure the mortification of being Known someone could care about her too.
