More random Inkheart headcanons
- despite popular belief, Basta didn't get his name from his dad or someone yelling 'enough' at him when he was a child, 'Basta' is just the name that is usually given to family-less, unwanted children, or children from unmarried mothers who died in childbirth in the Inkworld (most 'Bastas' pick out a nickname later in life, because it's not exactly the nicest name you can have)
- many of the Black Jackets from our world (which is the majority of them) can actually read - not very well, since they're mostly former street kids or school dropouts, and also Capricorn basically forbid them to read, but still, they can (and they taught the Black Jackets that came from the Inkworld how to write the sentence 'the red rooster crows tomorrow')
- I know I've been saying otherwise, but right now I'm actually convinced that Fulvio was a Black Jacket from our world, since, unlike Basta, Cockerell and Flatnose, he doesn't seem to have a nickname, and in the movie, he doesn't have writing over his face (it's still not impossible that he's from the Inkworld, though, because not everyone in the Inkworld has a nickname, just take Roxane as an example, and also, I'd just love to make things differently than the movie)
- anyways, Basta is an insomniac, and disguises this through also being a morning person; he likes it to wake other people up to, let's say bridge duty, at an ungodly time, where every normal person is still sleeping, he's got that 'well, if I can't sleep, why should you' mindset
- he's also secretly got a sweet tooth and if asked what invention from our world he likes best, his honest answer would be peppermint chocolate (but he would lie and say it's guns or cars or something like that)
- I quite like the headcanon I've seen somewhere that Fulvio had been Basta's apprentice of sorts, because it would make Basta's life even more tragic and c'mon, after Fulvio disappeared in the church, he seemed to be quite upset in comparison to other Black Jackets and even told Mo he'd 'pay for that', that's literally the most caring/protective he gets over any other character in the books (and no, with Capricorn, it's a different story, because Basta worships like a dog at the shrine of his lies, but he not caring and protective over him)
- just the simple fact that Cockerell had to jump around before someone's window wearing a devil's mask, like wtf, this is actually in the books, Capricorn, why would you make him do this, is this effective
- I wonder how the women other than Resa came into Capricorn's village, like, were they read out of some story, or did they come from our world, were they taken against their will, maybe from local families who couldn't pay their tributes to the fireraisers?
- also, it was mentioned in Inkheart that some of them were in a relationship with one of the Black Jackets, were they in those relationships voluntary? If yes, I'm pretty sure many of the other maids disapproved of this, like maybe they saw them as traitors for it...
-and I can't help but wonder what happened to them after the end of Inkheart and if Resa kept in touch with any of them
Forever torn between being sad that we don't have much background history on any of the villians aaand being happy having liberty to make that up ourselves like fans
Mortola: When I'm not here, do you guys braid each other's hair and debate who's the cutest Fire-raiser?
Flatnose: No.
Fulvio: It's Basta.
Cockerell: Definitely Basta.
Slasher: Yeah, Basta's cute.
Fulvio Roiter, Venezia, Piazza San Marco

Fulvio Headcanons (Ink-Triology)
- 16 Personalities: ISFP
- aesthetics: scribbles on arms, drawing with your finger on fogged up window panes, dark sweaters, rosemary 'n thyme, sunsets over the sea, soot, ash
- Fulvio, as we saw him in the movie (in the book, we sadly don't know a lot about him except that he is read into the Tales of 1001 Nights for Farid) somehow doesn't manage to look very threatening, despite his eyepatch, the dark clothing and the occasional gun in his hand
- his round face and short, fuzzy hair somehow make him look like a teddybear
- also he constantly has that 'kicked puppy' look on his face (OK, kicked puppy is a bit overkill, but he looks like he's questioning important life decisions or left the stove on or whatever, and I don't know if I should be annoyed or find it cute)
- he likes sunsets and baked potatoes with rosemary
- had he been more talented and given the opportunity, he could've become an artist
- he could be kinda a calming force between Cockerell, Flatnose and Basta who are bickering all the time, but is too passive for it; he just lets them bicker for the most part and peacefully looks out the window
- is secretly a little spoon
- like all the Black Jackets he can't read or write; it doesn't bother him the slightest, like most of them, but he wishes he was better at art
- doodles on walls, tables or his arms, with pieces of coal or the occasional stolen pen
- doesn't know shit about anatomy or whatever, but his doodles are always quirky and full of life (he's a bit embarrassed about it, though)
-lost his eye to the soldiers of the Laughing Prince, not a nice story, I tell ya
- a bit of a blue-eyed optimistic, and can be kind of an idiot at times (but who of the Black Jackets isn't?)
Me, everytime i read about any of Capricorn's men: lmao what a loser
Basta: Capricorn, in your professional opinion, how would I die?
Capricorn: Murder. Gangland style execution. We never find your head.
Flatnose: That's a shame.
Fulvio: *silently raises finger in question*
Capricorn: You slip in a tub.
