WR193: The Human Rights
Toronto's finest reggae act is hitting a Winnipeg stage for the first time in four years this weekend. The Human Rights, a group with a deep roots (no pun intended) in Canada's reggae scene, are playing the West End Cultural Centre on Aug. 21 as part of their #ReggaeForRefugees tour.
We talked to frontman Friendlyness (who you may also know from groups like Big Sugar... and if you go back far enough, Culture Shock) about the tour, the group's lineup changes -- including the addition of vocalist Treson as a full-fledged member -- their brand new record and more!
Although we've done phone interviews in the past and have done live on-air broadcasts from the UMFM studio before, this episode marks the first time we used UMFM's production room to pre-record a phoner. Definitely a resource we'll make use of going forward!
Listen to our program on Sundays at midnight on 101.5 UMFM (streaming on umfm.com if you ain’t here) or download/stream any previous episodes from the archives, free: http://www.witchpolice.com. We’re also doing a second Big Mix-Up show Aug. 29 at the Park Theatre!
Big shout all to all the people who work at a supermarket or similar!
You guys don’t get enough honor and praise and thankfulness! I just had the most terrifying and yet most awesome grocery shopping experience EVER.
So, yes, I went grocery shopping and was at the cash point and wanted to pay for my cart. As usual via card, because I never really have any actual money with me anymore. And usually that works really fine and all but today, just now, it wouldn’t!
Thankfully I went to my regular cashier lady, we always have a little talk, so she knows me as I know her. We tried 3 times my card, but each time there was an error message. I really was about to faint because I couldn’t figure out, why all of a sudden my card wouldn’t work anymore. So to not stop the building line any further, I asked if she could just storno the whole process and I would leave the cart close to her cash point, so I could go home fast and check my bank account.
And she said “No problem, we can do that!” WHAT? THIS EASILY???
She just called over one of her colleagues, telling me with a little grin “This kind of stupid things can only be done with a second person.” And her colleague was even more generous! She knew of a way to kinda keep the process saved, so when I returned, they only had to enter the amount of money I had to pay, without actually scanning each article again.
I’m not kidding when I say I am SO thankfull rightnow. I know how they are treated by many other customers, I have seen it often enough, and yet they were so friendly right now I could have cried.
So if you who reads this right now belong to those amazing people who work at a grocery store or any other kind of store: You guys rock! You guys are amazing! And I really want to thank you for your awesomeness! Thank you!
(P.S. The actual reason why I was not able to pay was that my bank account would have been 2€ in negative... 2€... Are you f-ing kidding me??? And that only because I got my car’s taxes withdrawn without any kind of notice! F U!)

Converting to Rastafarianism is my new goal in life. Just gotta work out the kinks of how to work a panther into my new name.
public service announcement:
when i say hi to everyone i pass in the hallways, that means i'm friendly. that means that i like celebrating when i'm not feeling really sad by being outgoing. please stop making fun of me for this. it's actually kind of hurtful that you would laugh at my actually bothering to interact - if only briefly - with another person.
Pokemon X / Y
Would anyone like my friend code btw? I have heard of some 'Friend Safari' that lets you catch certain types of Pokemon.
I apparently have a Ground type Safari, so if any of you are interested just ask!
