French Impressionist painter Jean-Louis Forain was born #onthisday in 1852. Forain began his career as a caricaturist for a number of Paris journals, eventually enrolling in the Ăcole des Beaux Arts and studying under esteemed French painters and sculptors.â â Known for his quick wit, Forain befriended many artists, poets, and writers. He was the youngest artist to frequent and contribute to the debates led by Ădouard Manet and Edgar Degas at the CafĂ© de la Nouvelle AthĂšnes in Montmartre.â â Seated Dancer by Jean-Louis Forain, c.1880s.
