charlie’s interview for the casting of our songs guesting A Thing™ I did because I thought it would be fun and I would like for her to have the experience. The questions also helped me solidify my headcanons for her skills a bit.
Legal name: Choi Sungyeon
Stage name: Charlie
Sex: Female
Position: Main dancer, main rapper, sub vocal
Solo music release history: None sadly
What are you favorite genres of music?:
“I think I mostly listen to R&B, hip hop and pop music just because those are the types of music I grew up with. Generally I enjoy music with a more mid to upbeat tempo, although slower and more acoustic songs are nice every once in a while. I guess I’m always in the mood for a tune to dance to really. I also gravitate towards any music with a really good bassline.”
What are themes you are interesting singing/rapping about in your music?:
“I’d say that I’m interested in most things. I don’t wanna limit myself to just one theme, but I guess now that I think about it, when I write I do write about the things I’ve experienced myself or things I’ve heard from others. I take inspiration from just everyday life - all the little things people might take for granted.”
How would you describe your voice?:
“I keep getting comments about how my voice is so low “for a girl” and it used to make me feel insecure, but nowadays it’s just another strength of mine. I’m not a main or lead vocalist but I can hold a tune although my higher register is considerably weaker than my lower. As for my tone when rapping, I don’t do anything differently with it unless I’m told to adjust for certain songs. In a way, that makes me rather adaptable as is my flow.”
What singers/rappers do you look up to?:
“I really like artists that are clearly doing their own thing and that don’t give a damn about what others think. Lady Gaga and Rihanna are such people that really stand out to me.”
What is your current favorite song?:
“I’ve been listening to a song called Dancing in the Moonlight recently. There’s a lot of covers and different versions of the song, and only recently did I find out the original artist so I’ve just had all the different versions on shuffle these days. It’s a really cute and fun song.”
