Today is my 13th day in Costa Rica. Out of the 12 foreign countries I’ve seen, it’s at the very top of the list. I have never heard or seen more wildlife, nor is there a place which offers more fear-conquering, thrill-inducing, and unique experiences around every corner.
We stared out at Envision Festival in a jungle setting, and it bled onto the seaside after you swerve around a crowded corridor full of local vendors barbecuing and selling grilled meats, hand-made trinkets, and all the alcohol and cocaine you could ask for. Make your way onto the beach and the vendors stretch to your left and right, tucked on the edge of the palm tree line. Just when you think the festival has more to offer than you can wrap your head around, you make it onto the beach and it’s an entirely separate experience on its own.
After Envision, we set off to explore the Pacific Coast and ended up at a cabin on the water for a couple days. The selfless host boated us to the other side of the peninsula and let us borrow his kayaks so that we could kayak back in the dark, for two miles, and be surrounded in the bioaluminescense. Watching fish dart around, sparkling like tinker bell, underneath our kayaks in the dark was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
I drank wine and danced with a beautiful girl, swam in the ocean at night, and have seen more animals than I could possibly imagine possible in one trip. #creature game strong.
Off we go to bed tonight and tomorrow we will explore Puerto Viejo. It’s important to note that hearing the howler monkeys at dawn every morning has been one of my favorite parts. This place is a fucking dream.
