YâALL
I was rigging up some scenery for the upcoming concert and I had a brilliant idea: I should teach Ren to run the fly system! It would completely eliminate the need for complicated pulley and counterweight systems if he just used the Force to move set pieces or people in and out!
The only downside is, weâd have to make sure he stays completely focused during the whole show so he doesnât drop anything, but ever since Snoke passed away (Rest his soul), Ren doesnât seem to get distracted by âvisitsâ from his imaginary Jedi girlfriend anymore (M4-RT1Nâs staff have Seen Things), so thatâs a plus.

Is this a stupid question?
Hey so, random query. First, let me state that Iâm one of those directors who doesnât always have a tech director beyond somebodyâs dad who knows how to use power tools.Â
So the question is this--has anyone ever done anything with unfurling drops/bunting/curtains rather than flying them in? Most of the theatres I work with are small and donât have fly capabilities. Is this even possible?
The Fly System
So, in our school, we have a Fly system. When we put on our production of Peter Pan, there was four kids on it. It takes 3 people to operate our fly system.
At one point, the rowdy middle school orchestra wanted to preform in the theatre, so we let them.
Now would be worth mentioning that we were about to replace the fly cables, as ours were a bit old. But we still had to put up with the old ones on opening night.
But, because everything hates us, the night of the show, we saw that the cables had been messed with. It could have only been the middle schoolers.
Thereâs no way we couldâve done without the fly system, because it was Peterâs system, and it wouldâve been impossible to do the scenes without him flying, especially on the scene where he fights Captain Hook.
And thatâs the story about how the whole of tech, the director, and actors scrambled to replace the cable 30 minutes before the places call. We donât let middle schools use our theatre anymore

Fly systems have helped our set designs rise to new heights.
