A weird lesson from Archie Comics (somewhat in the manner that in the 50s and 60s they repeatedly flagrantly commit academic fraud to keep Moose in the Big game), but this is probably even acceptable in some real-politik manner. Teacher looks at a student, maybe not necessarily college bound, does some math and reasons it is probably best they get their danged life going. I am thinking of a radio host who reports barely graduating high school and tells the story that his graduation came down to a teacher allowing him to do an oral presentation -- I sort of gauge it as the teacher deciding he is better off getting the hell out of here with that minimal credition in hand and also that that was probably a fair transferable representation for his current job trajectory.
The insult is on brand for Reggie, but strikes me as off coming from Jughead.

Everything that seemed promising fell apart. Never thought you would be where you are. Flunked out out of school and you broke your mama’s heart. Couldn’t wait to leave, but now don’t know where to start.
