Hey everyone. Happy July. I wanted to share a fic I wrote for @fluffyjuly, and published today. It brings together, for the first time, Hailey Banks and Jessica "Jess" Cruz, building off my short post on here, expressing excitement at Jess's cameo in the second episode of My Adventures with Superman (MAWS) Season 3 ("Mobile Suit Toyman").

Apart from the many fics that inspire it, it draws inspiration from my only other fic with Jess, as she is depicted in DC Super Hero Girls, "Diana, Tatsu, and the Metropolis Librarian" (listed in the inspirations), plus my Hailey's On It! fic "Hailey Meets... the Villainess and her... Girlfriend?" I wanted to write this crossover story since some users,are already comparing the two characters. This story serves as the first My Adventures with Green Lantern (MAWGL) fic because the My Adventures with Superman (MAWS) and MAWGL are in the same universe. Jess's cameo is like a mini-back door pilot to MAWGL, hence it makes sense to add it here. It fulfills the prompt for Day 30 (Comfort) and alternate prompt 1, "Found Family" as Jess's family becomes Hailey's found family in more ways than one! Here's the summary:

A Hawaiian-American girl finds herself in the sprawling city of Metropolis. She is starting to have second thoughts about the relationship with her far-too-intense boyfriend, as she wrangles with the fact that she left behind her friends when she fled her beloved hometown. She realizes that she has to end the relationship before it mentally destroys her. What happens next catches her off guard and rocks her world. In the uncertainty afterward, she meets a young anxious Latina girl around her same age and with the same voice as her. She connects with her on a deep level, despite the girl's agoraphobia and trauma, beginning a new friendship.

This fic has no triggers, but it does feature warnings for explosions and character death, along with robots/evil robots, breakups, Hawaiian, Latina, and Asian American characters, social anxiety and agoraphobia, mental health issues, developing friendships, celebrity crushes, Supergirl fangirls (Jessica), and boba tea, with a cameo from a dastardly villain! Hope you all like it.

Gale hears Laurent wake with a gasp, his heavy and ragged breathing a sure sign that he was having a nightmare.

"My love, I'm here..." Gale squeezes Laurent's hand, and he looks over to his husband.

"Oh, Eir... I-I'm sorry for waking you..."

"You didn't wake me. Come here..." Gale gently moves Laurent so his head is on his chest. "Listen... I'm here, and I'm fine. My heartbeat proves that, does it not?"

Laurent wraps his arms around Gale's waist. "It does..."

"I'll be here, my love. Get some rest..." Gale strokes Laurent's hair, and eventually they both fall asleep.

[Every time I see this prompt I think of the Dark Knight quests, but that's like… the antithesis of fluffy. So let's talk about Laurent's recurring nightmares instead. Which… I suppose also isn't fluffy but Gale's response is!]

"About ready to go?" Jiyan asked. He grabbed a drink out of the fridge and downed it in a few short gulps.

Xiangli Yao never looked up from the tablet on the table. He typed quickly as he said, "Yes, just give me one second to finish jotting down this idea I had earlier. There's no way I'll remember the details when I actually want to otherwise."

"Take your time." Jiyan hummed. He cracked his neck side to side and waited while the little taps of metal fingers against the screen somehow seemed to quicken.

"Are you two leaving?"

Jiyan turned towards the sound of the third voice. His eyes met a pair of crimson ones, which made him smile. He nodded and replied, "Soon."

Mortefi frowned as his gaze flicked from one of them to the other. He marched right up to Jiyan and leaned into his personal space then asked, "Did you put on sunscreen?"

There was no time for Jiyan to react before Mortefi reached up and slathered some onto his cheek. Where he'd gotten the stuff was anyone's guess. Maybe he'd been holding it the whole time and Jiyan just never took note of it. Maybe he was a witch and used a mysterious spell.

Mortefi grumbled under his breath as he applied a generous amount of cream to the other man's face. He made sure to rub it in so there was no evidence, of course. Couldn't have that perfect face of his look anything but flawless.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." Jiyan managed to say before squeezing his mouth shut again so no cream accidentally got in.

Finally done with his task, Xiangli Yao put his tablet into standby mode and stood. He stretched then looked at the other two then grinned. His amusement was palpable when he chuckled, "You're such a mother hen."

Mortefi shot him a deadly glare. Or it might've looked that way to anyone else. Both Jiyan and Xiangli Yao knew how to read his micro-expressions by now. Aggressive though the look might've been, it was also laced with concern he couldn't do a thing about.

Xiangli Yao raised his hands in surrender. "I mean it in a good way, honest." He smiled a crooked smile and scratched his own cheek as he added, "It's actually pretty convenient that you always consider the things I tend to forget."

In lieu of a verbal response, Mortefi turned towards the brown-haired man and slapped a generous amount of sunscreen onto his cheek as well. Xiangli Yao squeezed his eyes shut but stood there patiently as he got the same treatment as their other boyfriend.

"I won't listen to either of you whine about how your sunburn is bothering you later." Mortefi grumbled. He had enough to deal with, so something entirely preventable did not need to make that long list.

Mortefi finished applying the cream then stiffened when a pair of arms wormed their way around his waist. He turned to look at Jiyan over his shoulder and was met with the sweetest smile. All Mortefi could do was stare.

Xiangli Yao peeked one eye open to see why it was suddenly so quiet. He grinned when he took note of the situation. Mortefi's cheeks were so pink! But he did nothing to try and pull away from the embrace. He totally liked it!

As if he sensed the thought, Mortefi turned and looked right at Xiangli Yao. He frowned at the sight of that stupid amused grin on his face and then turned away with a grunt. Still, he made no motion to leave the hug.
