My boyfriend mentioned that he had always imagined Waterboy’s water being salt water. And, well, if youve ever seen salt biuldup on cloth....not a great look.

We all kinda agree that with his emotions, Flambae's powers are more out of control, right? So imagine young flambae crying, he's REALLY warm to the touch, on fire in some places, burning some of his accessories and clothes that aren't fire retardant.
Or. He thinks he's crying.. He feels something leave the corner of his eyes and its hot but whenever he reaches up to wipe it away, he's left with the feeling of salt stuck on his face and his hand coming out dry.
He doesn't fully process what's happening, too caught up in his distress to understand. But eventually it hits him, that he can't cry anymore. He's never been one for tears when he's upset, but when his mama dies, its hard to not ignite when he hears whispers about a heartless son, standing with a dry face at her funeral. He might be regarded as a superhuman, but the human part seemed to be more of a formality. Can't be a human if you don't even cry at losing your mother, right? Not even close to being a regular guy.
But as he grows up, he finds that he can function like a regular guy. He didn't need to fireproof all his favourite photos or keep distance from people incase he burns them. He's figured out that getting all fired up, taking down a few buildings, and basking in the firey glow of it all, helps him control his powers on calmer days. His baba always said his fire powers would be useful in getting rid of shitty buildings. Sure, he was a villain and wanted by the law for arson, but now he was even able to cry, fully cry! when watching Spirit! And there's nothing wrong with crying to an emotional animated masterpiece BY THE WAY!
And well- of course, it sucked as hell to have lost two of his fingers, caught and then thrown into jail by Mechabitch, but honestly the power suppressors managed to make doing regular small actions more tolerable. It was fucking cold though. Food was cold and bland. He takes it back Jail still sucked.
Joining the Phoenix Program was the come back, where he finally turned his fucking life around and the universe should thank him for it, really, he could be doing so much better as a villain really. But then he saves a girl from a fire, and she thanks him so earnestly, it reminded him of his niece, who looked just the same age as her... Fuck, he has to actually be a good hero now, doesn't he?
He's more conscious about keeping fire property damage to a minimal now, not going so supernova compared to before. He's trying to use violence as a last resort for once, and it feels... not bad... maybe even fulfilling...? Wow. Who knew. He doesn't notice that he's running warmer again. His coffee stays warm without conscious thought, and standing next to Waterboy has the guy feeling milldly dry for a few seconds sometimes.
It's only when he's in a fight, trying to NOT give the crook third degree burns like the generous, kind hearted hero he is, when he realizes his tears are gone again. His leg breaks, or maybe an innocent civvie died from carelessness, and he feels himself tear up. It blurs his vision before it drips down scalding hot and it sizzles away.
His stomach drops at the idea of being anywhere near the pathetic little baby he was before, upset about how he can't even cry. So he doesn't worry about it. He defeats the bad guy, gets back and moves on. He doesn't have to fucking prove to anyone he's human. It doesn't matter anyways, as long as he never needs to cry again. You don't need to be a human to be a Superhero.
