I took a look at TV fandoms* that have a lot of fix-it fanworks on AO3. Tagging varies a bunch by fandom and the type of event fans are responding to, so I looked at a bunch of different types of tags. I'll be doing deeper dives into some specific fandoms in future chapters.
Click through to AO3 for more explanations, more graphs, and any corrections/clarifications. Also note that some of these analyses and the explanations of them contain spoilers for various TV fandoms.
*The character death analysis also includes non-TV fandoms, but these analyses are mostly TV-focused.

Harry James Potter deserves two mothers and two fathers. I stand by what I said, give me the polycule we all deserve, give me James x Regulus x Lily x Mary. He also deserves the doting of his grandparents and his various aunts and uncles.
When the war happens, Regulus and Sirius have already left their parents. Their at the Potter Manor under the care and protection of Euphemia and Fleamont. Remus is also there, along with Peter's family seeking refuge.
Voldemort dies because of their collective wit and will to live; and Harry will grow under a very loving family. He will never have to suffer under the Dursley's care ever again. He will never have to cram on a cupboard under the stairs, will never be forced to do chores that is not fit for his age and stature, he will never be shouted at with no reason.
Give me the fix-its; give me all the fix-its because this is what they deserve!
Hey, I was wondering. If a series has a geisha character is it alright to write fanfiction about her? I'm white and I want to write a fanfiction involving all the playable characters in the game (game is a 4v1 multiplayer game. The fic i wanna write is character dynamics focused.) one of which is a geisha. Is it appropriate for me to write a fic involving her or should I avoid writing her? I aim to do it respectfully if I do write her but i don't want to overstep any boundaries.
You are asking the wrong thing
This is a “wrong question” ask. You are free to write whatever you want. Callout inquisitions are, in my view, very outré. I honestly have no real opinion on this topic. On one hand, geisha are generally considered closed cultural subjects for outsiders. On the other hand, the casual, non-profit nature of fanfiction means the work often leaves a shallow impact. Thus, if the end result doesn’t much matter, what really matters is how you feel about writing this.
If writing something makes one feel uncomfortable, or if they believe that they lack the necessary cultural competence to write about it, it logically follows that they should either do the necessary research to feel comfortable, or simply not write the story. If people were to tell you off for writing this fanfiction, would their opinions matter to you? Would their input change how you feel? The best I can do is tell you to be honest about your convictions and priorities.
- Marika.
Try a Fix-It fic
If the inherent characterization of the geisha character already skews offensive in the game, there isn’t much you can do except write her as authentically Japanese as possible. In a fix-it fic style, if you will. As Marika said, maiko training is closed-ish, so I wouldn’t recommend going into the details of her life or job as a geisha, but otherwise try to round her out and make her a 3D Japanese character who isn’t defined by her geisha-ness. If, after asking yourself if you’re comfortable with writing this, you want to go ahead with it, it’d definitely be nice to do the character justice in ways you might have seen the canon work fail.
"Right. Okay. You’re unattached. Like me. Fine. Good."
"John, um... I think you should know that I consider myself married to my work, and while I’m flattered by your interest, I’m really not looking for any..."
John raised his eyes from his plate and sighed.
"I'm so sorry, no, I didn't mean that. Not that. I just..." he looked away in embarrassment. "I don't do all that well with people... I mean, I'm fine with people in general, and even in significant numbers, but I really don't... I don't..." he felt his throat constricting painfully. "Sorry."
Sherlock was watching him wide eyes and waiting.
And waiting.
The soldier in front of him took a shuddering breath.
"I don't. Do very well. With some kinds. Of changes," he forced out. "If you had a significant other, whatever you'd call them, I'd need to know that... beforehand."
"Ah," Sherlock blinked and looked down, up and then surveyed John carefully, his head cocked to the side. "You wanted to know if there is any risk of another person staying occasionally with us, in the flat."
"Yes. That. Thank you. I..." John sipped some water. "Sorry. I might not be a very good person to become a flatmate with, I suppose. I--I will pay and you can look for, for someone else, I mean, less..." he stood up, digging for his wallet.
A long, warm hand caught his chilled wrist,
"No, don't," Sherlock pulled him back into his chair. "We can certainly come to some agreement. I am a consulting detective and there may be customers coming to the flat, from time to time, but I think we can manage this. Would any kind of visit be a trigger, or only certain ones?"
"As-as long as I know someone is coming," John murmured slowly to avoid stammering or blocking himself. "I will be fine. Or if I hear them, or somehow know they are there before I see them."
"Mrs Hudson sometimes drops in to clean up or to leave some biscuits," the detective provided an example. "But she does make a lot of noise when she comes upstairs. Would that be enough?"
"Y-yes. I think so, at least," John sighed. "I'm sorry. I'm too much trouble to live with..."
"Not a problem," Sherlock said softly. "A challenge, maybe. I think I can deal with the clients part easily, yes. Mrs Hudson has another flat, in the basement, dismal little place, but if we fix it up, she may let us have it for just the electricity bill. This way I will be able to separate the office from the flat. That would be of benefit to everyone, I suppose."
John blinked in surprise and speared a bit of ravioli.
"You'd do that just because of me?" he managed to find his voice again.
"Oh, well. I have to admit our living room has become rather cramped rather quickly, as it is now. Half of these documents could go to the 'office', should I have it. I'd just have to clean the basement flat, dry it out properly and install some shelving. I don't suppose you know anything about renovating?"
John felt a little smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"Well, let me tell you about the summer between my first and second year at the uni..."
# (3 months later) #
"John, in case I wanted... To have someone over - if they would sleep in my room and then, well, in general, be about the flat, what kind of warning would you require?"
John nodded slowly and swallowed the dregs of his tea. And a tear, or maybe two.
"Just tell me the day before that I should expect someone to be in the flat in the morning. Preferably before she arrives."
"Oh," Sherlock twirled the mug in his hands. "That's reasonable, I suppose."
# (6 months later) #
"I suppose," Sherlock began, watching John from over his plate. "I could have... A date. Tomorrow."
"I see," John replaced his fork carefully and twisted his hands together in his lap to stop them from shaking. "That's nice. Would she be coming to spend the night?"
"That... depends on how the date goes, but that is the general idea. I have to clarify one thing, however, John. Whoever I'd invite in such a fashion, it would certainly be a 'he', not a 'she'."
"O-oh," John looked down at his plate. "I'm sorry, I didn't want to assume..."
"You went with the standard population behaviours, which is not a crime, but a reasonable usage of available information. Don't worry."
"So, he would be staying over? Very... very well," he drank the rest of his coffee and took a long, steadying breath.
He had gotten better in the months of living with Sherlock. Regular meetings with clients in the downstairs 'office', a lot of exercise when running after the detective, having a small but steady job at the local surgery (which he defended from Sherlock with ferocity he hadn't expected) and being officially counted as half of the investigative team did wonders to his stability. He even managed to get used to the three people invading their flat on regular basis, which was the biggest surprise of them all. Mrs Hudson was very understanding about his 'little phobia' as she dubbed it, so she usually called up the stairs when she came over. DI Lestrade - Greg - learnt quickly not to enter their living room without knocking and waiting to be let inside (one occasion when John had almost tackled him down was quite enough). Mycroft, well, Mycroft was the one that took some adjustment... But he also changed his patterns, usually calling ahead - calling John's mobile, to be specific, under the cover of checking on his brother.
And now Sherlock wanted to introduce a new element. John nodded slowly, coming back to the present.
"Very... very nice," he smiled at Sherlock, even though his heart was quietly breaking. Just a bit. "When would he be coming over?"
"I suppose I'd take him to a dinner first," Sherlock drawled, looking at his mobile. "Definitely, dinner first, then we'd be coming back here."
"OK," John stifled a sigh. "Let me know when you have the time. I will let you have the flat to..." he shrugged and started collecting the dishes.
"Well, that depends on you, John," Sherlock caught his hand when he was picking up the saucer. "I..." there was something shaky in that voice. "What time would you be ready?"
"T-to go upstairs?" John shrugged. "Anytime you need me to, just send me a text."
"No, not... not that," Sherlock's voice had gone suddenly husky. "What time would you be ready to leave for the dinner with me?"

The new fix-it is 4,200 words in! I think it might actually qualify as a series 2, series 3, AND series 4 fix-it, hahaha! It’s rather huge in its scope. So far, two POVs have emerged. There may be a third! We’ll see. :)
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with five of your favorite fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers.
I was tagged by @chocolatequeennk Thank you!
Going to the Chapel: (Mature) Part of my (ongoing) Embracing Life series, in which the Doctor stops running and embraces a life with Rose after nearly losing her (fyi – the series will eventually feature kids, and Rose is pregnant in this fic, in case that’s not your thing). This was meant to be a fluffy little ficlet showcasing their wedding, but when I started writing I had trouble actually envisioning their wedding and so I just kept writing. It became about the planning stages, and then it became a reunion with Jack, and then it became a gallifreyan handfasting until finally I could see their Earth ceremony. It turned into a 11K+ word, 4 chapter fic. What I love about this is seeing the little things that go on in their lives together and how their relationship grows. Loose ends are tied up allowing them to move forward in their life together. Also chapter 3, the handfasting, is something I’m actually quite proud with how it turned out. I surprise even myself sometimes. (Ten x Rose)
Penance and Pain: (Explicit) I have no idea where this came from and I honestly didn’t think I was capable of writing something like this. I think I got the idea when I commented on someone else’s fic (or maybe the thought just crossed my mind) that the Ninth Doctor would be the Doctor with the most sexual kinks. I have to say I was pretty shocked by how much this fic took off ( @fleurdeneuf I’m looking at you, cuz i think you had a big part in sharing it before i was even on tumblr - thank you!), but I’m thrilled that people like it, because I love it too. This is completely how I think the Ninth Doctor would be with Rose if he’d had the chance. Hard around the edges but a complete softy on the inside, especially for Rose. (Nine x Rose). [PS – there is a sequel: The Light of Day]
Hold on Tightly: (Explicit) This is Rose and Tentoo’s first time together. The premise is that Rose and the Doctor had had an existing sexual relationship prior to them being separated. Rose is distracted by the differences between the Time Lord and the half-human Doctor, but quickly recognizes that they are the same in the most important ways. And when the new Doctor takes her hand, she realizes he is the Doctor and she's made it home. (Metacrisis Tenth Doctor x Rose)
A Little Bit of Hope (version 2): (General) This is a fluffy little fic that has Rose and her children running into the Eleventh Doctor at an amusement park giving him a small peek of the future. I think it's sweet and it makes me smile. I got the idea for this when watching Cold War and the Doctor pulls a Barbie doll out of his pocket. This tells the story of how it got there. It’s a prequel to my As It Should Be series, though it could just as easily be the epilogue - timey wimey and all that. It’s version two because it was originally written prior to the announcement for the Thirteenth Doctor and I needed to tweak it to reflect Jodie Whitaker’s casting. (Eleven x Rose, Thirteen x Rose)
A Moment of Solace: (Explicit) I adore the Eighth Doctor and this is my first attempt at writing him. It features an Eighth Doctor running from any involvement in the Time War and a dimension hopping Rose trying to get back to the Tenth Doctor. They are both weary and yet manage to draw strength from the other. This has a little bit of everything, telepathic-bond/marriage between the Doctor and Rose, Time War back story, smut, hurt/comfort, reunion, and a Journey’s End fix-it. (Eight x Rose, Ten x Rose)
Honorable Mention:
The Merry Adventure of Marion (General): So I really enjoy mixing past with present (aka crossing timelines) between the Doctors and Rose. I like to think that Rose would pull out parts of conversation she’s had with the Doctor in the future and tease the Doctor in the past with it, and if that inspires the future Doctor to say it to Rose in the first place, well what’s a little circular paradox among friends? This little fic is just a fun romp between Rose and the Second Doctor, while Rose is dimension hopping. She recognizes the Doctor immediately and has a little fun with him, without letting on who she is. It briefly features the Second Doctor’s companions Jamie and Zoe, and it set during the Twelfth Doctor episode Robot of Sherwood. (Second Doctor x Rose)
I think most everyone has done this already, but if you haven’t and you want to consider yourself tagged! I love finding out which works are close to the author’s heart.
