Bilmuri - BETTER HELL (Thicc boi) -- bilmuri is post-hardcore and this album is country post-hardcore. this is a guy from Attack Attack! doing post-hardcore with genuinely well-executed country music tropes/ elements, solo with weird song titles, Americana music video imagery. it's delightful. the music video is him mowing his lawn singing and mugging at the camera, and there's a dog. -- Links: YT (music video with lawn mower and dog) | Spotify | soundcloud (full album - click track 3)

Steeleye Span - Sum Waves - 2009 Remaster -- okay look. this isn't my favorite track on this album. it starts as discordant fiddles and it does bloom into a bigger folk rock song that is still discordant-fiddles-forward and it's got a little drone in it and it's a bit foreboding and like it's coming for you and it's happy about it. it must rip live. I think it's the only instrumental on this album, which is great. the title track All Around My Hat is what blew them up and I can totally see why: it's awesome. author Claire Willett mentioned them in some context I forget now but it made me want to follow up. they ended up being a kind of missing piece of sonic memory I have been trying to reconstruct? Tony Romera remixing Avicii & Sebastien Drums - Snus, Tony Romera Remix -- house remix of an EDM track that absolutely sounds like Avicii. I hadn't even listened to the original track until now but I think Tony Romera pulled out the best part and sort of reversed the energy of the track, from a big crashy sugar high, into a cool head-nodder that has build but would spin forever on Infinite Jukebox. It loses the drop so that it can drop nicely into a mix; I can see what it's doing in Qrion's Crying in the Club playlist. Joy Orbison - flight fm -- a fun weird electronic track. I thought it was annoying for about thirty seconds until I realized what it was doing. I love it because it's a droney synth making airplane doppler noises over minimal beats. it's fuzzy, it's sudden, it's a bit silly, and it switches up to stay fresh. also from Qrion's playlist. Knock Over City - Digital Weed - (NSFW lyrics - drug ref and profanities) post-hardcore/punk track with a vocal sample from Teen Mom 2 up front but the lyrics are about turning away from the capitalist machine and being more chill, wrapped in the conceit of tabletop RPG encounters that tie all their recent EPs together. the band's a three-piece and their latest work features a couple brass instruments and vocal harmonies - you will hear a sax. they released the EPs (Dungeon Modules) as a themed LP (The Campaign) that seriously rips, it is so awesome, and I recommend their album It's Bad, Dude for more songs about being depressed. Minus the Bear - Women We Haven't Met Yet -- alt/math. sooo many guitars, so many songs smashed into one, guitar and synth like bells or like clock or like growling creature or like careering around corners. aaah, baby's first mathrock! it was the last time I listened to this (and improvised on the vocal line) that I understood very practically, rather than just intellectually, how much it's related to emo. Child Seat - Something Good -- 80sy pop band put together post-2020 in LA, I always want to dance about it. the singer croons sulkily, beckoningly -- don't you wanna feeeel something good, I dunno how to change it but I wish I could. Alex Wann remixing Route 94 ft. Jess Glynne - My Love (2024) -- dancy house remix of the 2014 house track (YT mv, nsfw) from Route 94 ft. Jess Glynne. the original is a lovely house track. this remix is right in the sweet spot of dancey building piano house for me, I think because the vocal sample doesn't really complete? I don't even know. something about it lends itself to infinite play.
