Imo it doesn't make sense that Firebenders can just "make" fire, but Earth, Air, and Water benders have to supply their own. Firebenders should have to carry little zippo lighters or torches.
Nah, it make perfect sense if you actually watched the show, it's the entire point of the whole 'fire is life' stuff the dragons say.
Firebenders don't just bend flames, they bend their inner fire which is their life force, which is why they can produce flames directly.
Also it make even more sense when you remember they learned that from Dragons, who breathe fire, they don't just manipulate existing fire.
If Firebenders relied on an external source for bending, the 'fire is life' thing wouldn't make any sense and the anti-spirituality and pro-materialism modern philosophy of firebending would be a lot more credible, which would contradict the show's entire point.
