Yesterday I gave lesson to my Girlfriend @elisazanoli_art and after that we had some sparring bouts. I’m particularly proud of this action, even if in general people may think that I am far more happy while I do long exchanges full of parries and cuts, In fact I love far more “complex simplicity”. In this exchange I lure Elisa into a trap, I want her to deal with my sword while keeping my weapon first, as soon as I feel that this is going to happen, I disengage, going backwards (while maintaining a left foot forward guard) to prevent a possible thrust forward (which doesn’t happen) then I beat the opponent sword myself and cut at one of the best targets, the right arm. While going backward into a ready-to-fight guard as soon as possible. A lot of people un this days is publishing solo drills. Which is cool, but sometimes if a solo drill is executed at an exaggerated speed, without taking the time needed to complete every action, it ends up being useless. Even if the goal is to showcase one persons skill, a series of flat-cuts is quite ugly to see. So when you are performing your solo drills or Kata or Assalti etc. Take the time to complete every single action. Focus on the things you can train with this tool: Proper form, Edge alignment, hand-body-feet coordination and Precision. The speed comes by itself, there is no need to rush, it only creates problems.
