#finding music

when i first realised this i was like ¨no i listen to more unknown people too¨ but when i was looking more at my playlists i saw less and less songs i discovered myself or songs that arent that popular

of course its not wrong to like popular songs or artists (i loveee Laufey and beabadoobea), but it felt like i didnt have my own taste aand i didnt enjoy music as much as i did when i was younger and had to find music myself

so recently ive been trying to find my own music taste again, still influenced by social media of course but way less, and im finding myself enjoying music again :)

how im discovering music again:

♪ artists playlists: artists often have playlists linked somewhere on the bottom of their spotify profile with songs they like or get insperation from. so listen to some songs and if you find a song u like u can go to the artist and see if they have a playlist!!

♪ discoverquickly.com: ive been on this website so much, you login with your spotify (sadly you cant use this if u use anything else to listen music on, and its only on computer) you click on a song you like and they will give you about 40 songs based on that song. and when u hover above them (the songs) with your mouse you can hear a 10 second clip of the song so u can decide if you like it or not

♪ this is probably an obvious one but other peoples playlists: search your vibe or lyrics to your favourite song and maybe someone knows the exact vibe you´re going for!! it takes a bit longer to find songs tho

♪ on pinterest there are starting guides for so many genres (examples below). it speaks for itself: you start with one album and if you like it you go to the next and the cycle repeats

Artist Playlists:

Don’t want to stray too far way from your comfort zone? Go to your favorite artist’s platform and you might find their own playlists! This might be an inspiration track list or a pre-show mix, but it will definitely be a place to start finding new music with the same vibe!

Fanfiction:

Finding fanfiction you like is already all about preferences. Sometimes writers will create a playlist for their fic to further the story or really get you into the moments. Other times they might add lyrics or descriptions of songs at the start of in the fic. Whatever it is, all of this music being added is most likely a good representation of the fic and its meaning! If you like the content, chances are you might like the author's music taste too!

(I particularly enjoy fic playlists if the story is set in a different time period! A great example of this is ATYD! The author curated songs for each chapter and formed a great 70s rock playlist for the readers enjoyment!)

Social media:

We live in a time where people frown upon those who like mainstream media, and I think that's just silly! Like whatever you want! Usually music is popular for a reason and great songs are used all over social media posts and edits! Music taste is called taste for a reason! Everyone likes different things so feel free to express yourself however you like! I find social media is a great place to find independent bands and artists! It's super easy to curate your algorithm to your music taste to find great artist. People on social media also make their own playlist that might fit your vibes. Using other peoples music taste as a jumping off point can lead to some pretty awesome music finds!
