They announced the next crop of band leadership for the coming marching season and ahhhhhh I'm so proud of my li'l babs!
Granted, the drum majors are probably gonna suck, because even though I love all of them as people and friends and think they're fantastic leaders and essential members of the band individually, they happen to have boatloads of explosive and unavoidable drama brimming between all three of them and that's probably going to lead to a hell of a lot of passive-aggressive confrontation, if not all-out warfare, and considering most of them already kind of had Band Nazi (a somewhat affectionate nickname coined for my freshman year drum major who would call us to attention at least fifteen times in a row every single practice, aggressively berating us every time for not being loud/quick/clean enough) tendencies to begin with... I guess I dodged a bullet there XD
The trumpet section leader is going to be the musical virtuoso whose paper plate award from me this year was "Solo Super Star", so I'm sure he's gonna be capable, especially in explaining actual musical stuff during sectionals like I never could, but he's also really quiet and not really the most assertive so I wonder how helpful and friendly he'll be to the incoming freshmen (plus he's physically tiny so he might not be much of a presence), even though I know he'll definitely be a stellar role model and a hard-as-heeeeeell worker.
Another of my li'l trumpet babies is going to be the brass section field commander, which I think is a fantastic choice because he practices all the time and knows his shit and really cares and is funny and likable but also won't be afraid to yell at people to keep them on track (his paper plate was "Angry Elf"). Although he does also have the problem of not necessarily being in touch with most of the band either because we had a running joke all year where every time someone outside of his immediate friend group would raise their hand to answer a question in class he would turn to me and, with a completely straight face, hiss, "Who the hell is that kid? I've never seen them before in my life!"
The other two field commanders that I know of are wonderful choices too, a girl who's a total get-stuff-done type who's super nice and bubbly and fun-loving but also not afraid to give out orders that WILL be listened to when it's time to get down to business and a boy who's one of the absolute sweetest people I've ever met, super friendly and charming and just all-around incredibly likable, but also a super hard worker who has no problem getting serious about things he's passionate about either.
The rest of the elected officials aren't too relevant to me (most were pretty predictable, too), although it was interesting to hear that they chose two section leaders for the six-person trombone section-- the responsible, diligent, obvious choice of a sophomore but also the total slacker, dead silent, fades-into-the-background junior who shocked and confused everyone by expressing interest for the spot in the first place, even though he did have seniority...
Man, I'm really curious to see how things are going to run next year! I'm soooo┬аexcited to come back to visit during band camp (which is conveniently right before I leave for college!) and as I told some of my underclassmen friends, I of course plan on visiting so often that they literally get sick of me ;)
