It's been a month since I had to "put my beloved cat to sleep".
For several years now, I've had this misfortune whenever a cat comes along, that cat, the one for whom you both become the center of the world, the clock of the life resembles more the date on the warranty card of a modern smartphone than a living, loving being. Each time, a hungry hole is left. But this time, something has broken for good. I've had enough. Of course, if the cat distribution drops off another lost soul in need, there will be a place for it under the roof, but… I won't let myself be chosen anymore.

This is my felv+ 15 years old Aegir. Despite what she looks like in this photo and other I have, death is looming above her. Those days I'll have to choose and it will be a difficult choice.
I found out that the rescue I adopted my cat from in September was dishonest when she told me that my cat, who has FeLV, will have a normal lifespan. I found out that kittens who are born with it (like my cat) will live less than 5 years and start showing symptoms by 2 years old 😭 Then she’ll be sick a lot for the rest of her life 😭
My vet wants to test her again in March, though, because it’s possible that what they saw in her blood as a kitten were leftover antibodies from her mother and she might not actually have it.
She's gone. My sweet little angel is gone. She was special. The sweetest, funniest, most beautiful fluffy babycat princess. She was only three years old. Cancer and leukemia took her. She was a big part of my life and my family's life. We fought for her with all our might, but it was too late. There will be a emptiness in my home and in my heart that only she could fill. I love her so much, I will miss her so much. I'm so sorry.

On November 1st, my babycat received a blood transfusion because her blood counts had worsened due to FeLV. She felt much better, but the effect only lasted three days. Then her condition began to rapidly deteriorate again. Today we went to the clinic and they did an ultrasound. And according to the ultrasound results, she has pancreatic lymphoma that has metastasized to the kidney. This is crazy, because just a month ago we consulted an oncologist and she said that this tumor was not lymphoma and we shouldn't worry about it. And in the end, we lost time again. And this makes all my treatment attempts pointless. It was so painful for me to torture her with this treatment, constantly giving her injections, constantly forcing her with pills. And none of it made any sense. I cry all day long. This is crazy. I just can't believe it. She's only three years old and not a single doctor gives her a chance. She barely gets up, she drinks little, and eats only from my hand. I don't want to lose her so much, I love her so much. I feel destroyed. Nothing makes sense when your beloved catchild dies before your eyes and you can't do anything to help. I don't know how I'm supposed to bear this. I'm crying right now, soaking her fur with tears. God knows I would give the years of my life to her if I could. I would sell my soul if I could save her, I would give anything.
This is not the kind of post I ever thought I’d have to write, but we are at the end of our strength – emotionally and financially.
Our beloved cat Spicy is just 1 year old and has already survived more than most animals do in a lifetime. She has FeLV (feline leukemia virus), has battled repeated bladder infections, parasites, and most recently, a life-threatening intestinal inflammation that required intensive hospitalization.
She spent several days in the clinic receiving fluids, medication, and nutritional support through a feeding tube. She fought hard, and she’s now back home and slowly recovering. But her immune system is still very weak, and she’ll soon need a specialized interferon therapy to help stabilize her blood values.
The vet bill we received today is nearly €4,000, and we have already spent over €10,000 in the past year on our cats’ medical needs. Our financial reserves, including private retirement savings, are gone.
To make things worse, I had a stroke at age 24 just a few months ago and am unable to work at the moment.
We’ve created a GoFundMe to raise donations for Spicy’s medical care – for vet bills, medications, and her upcoming treatments.
Even €1 helps. And if you can’t donate, sharing this post means the world to us.
