A sole green haired mage took a deep sigh as the sight of a woman on a throne came into her sights. 

The sound of an ongoing battle roared behind Nino. Eliwood’s army was pre-occupied with reinforcements which had surrounded them on the battlefield. It was ironic that she had been the first person to reach Sonia.

“I... I thought for so long that you were my real mother.” Nino somberly uttered as she approached a black-haired woman on the throne.

She stared at Sonia with a look of doubtful bewilderment. All that she received in return were eyes as cold ice.

“Ha ha ha! Your mother and father looked so much like you. They were so naive they made me vomit.” Sonia narrowed her cold, cunning eyes and cackled while remaining direct eye contact with Nino.

The green mage bit her lip tightly.

“I dressed in rags and entered their house with a child in my arms.They were completely concerned. How utterly foolish.” Sonia cackled once more as she recalled the events.

Nino clutched the Elfire tome in her arms steadfastly.

“Oh they came to regret it too late...” Sonia stopped abruptly and watched Nino’s face contort into a look of anger with eyes of mirth. “Did I strike a nerve?” She ridiculed.

“Aaaaaah! You no perfect being! You’re a monster in human form!” Hastily wiping away the newly forming tears and without hesitation Nino opened her tome as a red glow enveloped the area around it. “No mercy! No forgiveness!!!!”She bellowed as a large red fireball erupted from the tome and careened into Sonia’s direction.

The mage of the Black Fang’s eyes widened in shock. She had been too busy mocking the green haired mage to prepare a counter attack.

BOOM!

Smoke erupted from the attack’s point of contact.

Nino collapsed to the ground and gasped for air. The attack had taken a lot out of her. Her rage had caused her to overload the attack with too much mana. Beads of sweat rolled off her head as she struggled to stand.

“You brat!” Sonia screamed as she emerged from the smoke, hair askew and her face contorted in anger. “I should’ve just killed you on that day.”

A vivid, cold mist surrounded Sonia’s hand as the tome in her left hand glowed.

“Fimbulvetr...” The spell name entered her mind.

Nino’s eyes watered but she closed her eyes so that the tears didn’t fall. She wouldn’t be able to dodge the attack and she wasn’t strong enough to counter the attack with another spell.

She wasn’t going to survive.

“DIE!” Nino heard Sonia shout. As the area got colder Nino braced herself for the impact... but before that she suddenly felt herself lifted into someone’s arms.

Nino opened her eyes to see that Jaffar had grabbed her and narrowly dodge the icy gale of wind which had been lauched at her.

“Jaffar...” She slowly whispered in disbelief. A few tears ran down her cheek as the Angel of Death set her down to the ground and drew his daggers.

Sonia’s eyes narrowed in rage as she gazed in Jaffar’s direction. 

“Here I come.” Jaffar slowly spoke as he began a gentle walk forward.

“Ingrate! You owe your life to Lord Nergal! You and that girl you’re nothing but filth!” The mage yelled.

As if he hadn’t heard a word the assassin merely continued walking forward, step by step. Seemingly lifeless eyes peered daggers into Sonia and in fear she stumbled back a few inches. Jaffar tossed both his daggers up into the air allowing his weapons to twirl in the air several times.

“But it matters not, as long as your essence remains intact. No other part of you has any value.” Sonia slowly spoke as her face contorted into a wicked grin. “Now DIE!” She bellowed. Once again a icy mist surrounded her hand and a blue light glowed around her but it all quickly fizzled away into existence.

The assassin had disappeared. The Black Fang mage looked around frantically but she quickly shrieked. Somehow she was now looking looking at Jaffar’s back. She gasped as she felt a dagger moved out of her stomach.

“This is impossible!” A look of disbelief marked Sonia’s face as she gazed at the blood on her hand. As her vision blurred, she stumbled forward grimly.  “I’m... perfect... Lord... Nergal... said... so.”

She dropped to the floor, her last sight was a flick of green haired rushing in he direction.

“Jaffar!” Nino sobbed as she cried into his chest.

“...” The assassin silently let the girl cry for a while longer before finally speaking. “Next time... stay behind me in the battlefield.”

Eliwood sighed in discomfort as he stood up from his chair and exited his chambers. It had only been a week or so since his coronation and he was already struggling with fulfilling one of the more tedious duties of a marquess. Paperwork. 

He collapsed onto his large bed and blankly stared at his surrounding till a very familiar sword had come into view.

 Durandal- The legendary blade of the champion Roland

It had yet to be returned to its original location after the fight with Nergal due to time constraints following Eliwood, Lyn, and Hector returning to Pharae, Caelin, and Ostia respectively. 

The Marquess of Pharae himself had yet to even train, much less pick up a sword since his return. He could hear Hector laughing at this fact from miles away.

But it was worth it for the sake of his kingdom and...

The door lightly opened and Eliwood smiled as the love of his life entered the room.

Ninian.

She was the one thing he looked forward to every day.

“Lord Eliwood is everything alright?” Ninian questioned lightly as she walked towards the bed and sat next to his resting body. 

“Just tired from work.” He laughed as he moved into a sitting position next to her. Quickly his hands shot up to her shoulders shaking with fear. “Ninian, you’re bleeding!”

The bluenette’s clothing had several scrapes and tears adorning it, and her forehead had a small cut which seeped a little blood.

Dumbfounded, Ninian wiped her forehead using her hand and forced a smile.

“Just a small cut I got from tripping down the stairs. Nothing, you need to worry about.” She reassured his fears while avoiding his eyes hastily.

“It was the previous suitors wasn’t it?” Eliwood questioned. The marquess frowned as he watched her reaction. Ninian bit her lips and averted her red eyes once more.

Eliwood’s heart sunk as he saw Ninian’s reaction.

Not all of Pharae accepted the fact that Ninian had quickly stolen the heart of Eliwood and many of his previous suitors showed signs of harboring grudges towards the dragon girl for stealing him away.

“Lord Eli-”

“Ninian... i’m sorry... I expected this but I didn’t do anything about it.” He stumbled in grief.

“No, Lord Eliwood I wasn’t attacked...” Ninian stumbled again before pausing as she made eye contact with Eliwood once more. She could understand that he was not buying her lie. “I don’t wish to burden you.”

“And neither do I wish to burden you. Ninian please tell me when things like these happen. I don’t wish to see you continue to be hurt.” Eliwood replied softly with a caring tone. 

Ninian nodded silently as tears welled in her eyes and before she knew it she had moved into her husband’s hands.

Eliwood hugged her tightly until her sobs had changed into a quiet snore. 

He imagined that one day both he and Ninian could live happily in Pharae with the secret of Ninian being a dragon being common knowledge but for now Eliwood was content with building the acceptance one step at a time.

“Ninian, I love you.”
