Small little scene thats been in my head. I haven't written in ages... Be nice to me/silly
Fandom: Welcome Home
Characters: Dandy (insert) and Barnaby.
Summary: Its a nice relaxing day and Barnaby plans to do just that with his friend Dandy. Though something seems to be on the gardener's mind.
“Whats the matter?” Barnaby asked as he adjusted his position against the tree and sighed as he found just the right spot to sink himself down comfortably and let his shoulders relax.
Dandy, however, looked less so as they sat up right with their head resting in their hand while their thoughts ran wild. Still, they frowned at Barnaby's observation. “Nothing.”
“Ain't nothing. Only something would be causin’ ya to make a face like that.” The large dog pointed out, reaching his paw out to poke Dandy aside the head.
This made them frown more, their gaze averting completely as they seemed to try and wall themselves off from the question. “I ain't making a face.”
Barnaby chuckled. “You ain't huh? I don't remember you always looking like that. You almost remind me of Frank with that brow all furrowed.”
Dandy rolled their eyes, turning themselves a little more away from Barnaby as they felt a growing lack of patience for his antics. And yet they could still feel his eyes on them the whole time.
They heard him sigh eventually before he relaxed, subtly moving to extend his arm out and bring the small gardener in closer. Because as stubborn as they were, Barnaby could tell something was really bothering them.
“Alright alright. You're stewing. Why don'tcha unload some of that thought soup out, huh? Before your head starts spinning like Frank's too.” To punctuate his point, Barnaby moved his paw over Dandy's head to lightly move it in a small circle. This, of course, ruffled the hair under Dandy's hat and managed to get a reluctant laugh out of the smaller puppet.
For a moment. Dandy stayed silent as Barnaby's paw returned to their side, a solid and comforting pressure against their arm. But after a small internal debate, they finally let out a breath and turned their gaze up at the sky through the leaves above them.
“...I don't have a best friend.”
Barnaby made a face, but said nothing to allow Dandy to continue, though they hesitated when no snarky remark came from the hound.
“I mean… I have friends now. And it's nice. But… I dunno. I love hanging out with Frank, but when Julie shows up it's like I end up feeling…” Dandy looked down at their hands, fidgeting their fingers slowly and thoughtfully as they tried to sort their mind out. “Out of step. Like I'm not on the same page as them.”
Barnaby made a small hum, his own eyes now on the sky and off of Dandy, not letting his stare weigh too heavy on them as they vented. “Not on the same page, huh? Frank and Julie are two peas in a pod… Don't feel like there's room for three peas in that pod though.”
Dandy nodded. “Right! And Eddie is nice. We get along. But he's always so busy… I don't have a ton of friends, but every friend I have has someone they like more. Which is…fine but…I dunno. I tend to notice.”
The dog hummed again, his eyes closing as he slumped a bit more against the tree. Dandy continued.
“Poppy and Sally. Frank and Julie. Wally and-” Dandy stopped there, letting out a small groan as they pressed their hands to their face, trying to rub away the negative feelings that bubbled up from the topic. “I just… I know I have people who care. But I still feel so out of place.”
There was a small beat of silence before Barnaby shifted to bring out his pipe, his gaze relaxed and lazy as he moved to light it and took a long drag. The colorful smoke surrounded the two, making Dandy squint and cough before they waved as much of it away as they could.
“Barn-”
Barnaby cut off their complaint with a smile. “Noticed you didn't mention little ol’ me.”
The gardener frowned at that. Cause sure, technically they didn't. But they knew Barnaby wasn't stupid. “I mean. Obviously you and Wally are best pals. You go everywhere together. I know you only hang out with me because Wally has me tag along.”
The dog snorted and then made a show of looking around. Doing so for longer than even necessary, really looking and looking as if trying to find something but failing. Before Dandy had about enough, his eyes met theirs. “Is Wally hiding around somewhere right now?”
The question made Dandy's face burn, their eyes quickly glancing away back to their hands. Barnaby chuckled, and then he continued.
“Sure, Walls and I do lots together. And sure, he's usually the one asking you to come along. But you think it's always his idea?”
Dandy said nothing still, their expression only tensing more. Though Barnaby seemed no less bothered by the lack of response.
He took another drag from his pipe. “You said you feel out if step with Frank and Julie, yea? Well, what about with Wally and I? How do you feel when it's us?”
Another small beat of silence, but this time Barnaby made sure to look over to watch as Dandy's blush began to spread throughout their face. He couldn't help but laugh again, now patting the smaller puppet on the shoulder.
Dandy let out a small surprised yelp at the contact, Barnaby's heavy paw always catching them off guard when he did stuff like that.
“Barnaby, cut it out!” Dandy huffed, pushing Barnaby's paw away with no argument received in return. “You know good and well you and Wally are best friends already.”
“A dog can't have two best friends?”
The question made Dandy pause, their expression slowly shifting now as his words seemed to really settle over them. They went silent again, and Barnaby didn't mind at all. He sunk back into his comfortable position, his arm pulling Dandy in closer again as they processed the very idea of it all.
After a while, they murmured against his fur. Their voice was smaller now…and filled with an emotion that was hard to name. “You really see me as your best friend..?”
“Yep. And your best friend don't really appreciate being forgotten about like that. But I'll let it slide this time.”
Barnaby laughed again, but he stopped when he felt the first wet drops of tears against his side. The chuckle turned into another hum, and then turned to silence. He knew Dandy was probably too overwhelmed to say anything more, and that was fine by him. At least now they looked more at ease.
No hostiles. No traps. No ominous chanting. Not even a single punch scheduled. Just a dusty, half-collapsed cottage and a handful of suspiciously robed mages who’d already been scooped up by Sanctuary patrols. Nice. Clean. Boring.
So naturally, there was a baby.
“A baby,” Valkyrie said flatly, staring down at the bassinet in the centre of the ruined living room. “In the middle of a crime scene.”
Skulduggery tilted his head. “Technically, it’s not in the middle. More… tastefully offset.”
“It’s a baby,” she repeated. “Next to a death sigil. Surrounded by what I’m pretty sure is blood and the bones of a chicken. Why is there always a chicken?”
He ignored her and crouched beside the bassinet, voice low and comforting. “You’re safe now,” he murmured, almost too quiet to hear.
Valkyrie blinked. “Did you just comfort the evidence?”
Skulduggery didn’t respond. Instead, he reached in and gently touched the edge of the blanket with one gloved hand. The baby blinked up at him, unbothered. A little glow flickered in its tiny fist, then fizzled out like a sparkler.
“Definitely magical,” he said softly. “Might be a conduit. Or a battery. Or a bomb. Hard to tell with babies.”
Valkyrie crouched beside him. “Should we be this close to something that’s potentially a magical warhead?”
Skulduggery straightened, carefully cradling the baby in his arms like it was made of glass. “If someone left them here, they were either trying to sacrifice them or protect them. Either way, they’re ours now. Chain of custody.”
“Chain of—Skulduggery, no. We can’t keep it. We don’t even keep plants.”
“You had a cactus once.”
“It exploded.”
“You overwatered it.”
She pointed at the baby. “This is not a cactus. This is a baby. With possible murder powers.”
The baby sneezed. A small flash of blue light lit up the corner of the room. The couch caught fire. Briefly.
Skulduggery patted its back. “Strong sneeze. Impressive.”
“I hate this,” Valkyrie groaned. “I hate you, I hate the building, I hate the lingering smell of roast chicken.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” he said, already tucking the baby more securely into his arms. “It’s adorable. Look at it. All sparkly and wrathful.”
“I hate everything about this,” Valkyrie muttered.
“Exactly. You’re bonding already.”
She scowled. “I swear to god, if you start talking about names.”
“I was thinking Justice.”
“Put. The baby. Down.” Valkyrie hissed.
His head tilted in amusement. “Possibly Skulduggery Junior.”
David struggled to unlock the door, sighing as he finally used the right key for the front door. He knew His spouse would already be asleep, he hoped at least.
Inside he finally set his things down, shrugging his jacket of, and putting his keys, wallet and such as down. He stretched quickly, hearing his back pop and crack. He sighed, relieved while also exhausted.
Inside the house it was dark, he knew his was around so he was pretty good about not stubbing his toe to hard, but to play it safe he kept his hands in front of him.
In the kitchen he grabbed one of the chilled water bottles from the rack in the fridge, the cold sensation refreshing on his skin as he brought it up to his forehead. He sighed, a soft smile tugged on his lips as he remembered his now spouse who was waiting upstairs for him.
He smiled thinking about how he could rest easy with them in his arms. How they fit perfectly against him while he held them close.
David stood up straight and shut the refrigerator and began walking upstairs to their shared bedroom, occasionally glancing down at the ring on his finger and feeling this overwhelming feeling of admiration.
Opening the door and seeing them sent a wave a relief over him as he walked in, the light from the moon shining through the window enough for him to see easily enough.
Walking around to the side of the bed they rested on he leant down and kissed their head, causing them to stir but not fully wake yet.
Into the master bathroom he stripped of his dirty work clothes and tossed them into the hamper effectively ridding of part of his work smell, but too tired to shower.
“I’ll shower in the morning.” He noted to himself, and he would.. just maybe not by himself.
He put on his gym shorts and reminded shirtless, he stared at himself in the mirror and sighed before getting his toothbrush and squirting toothpaste on it. David said the ABC’s in his head twice before a spit and rinse.
A quick face wash and floss and he flicked the lights of the bathroom off, walking back into the bedroom.
He curled up under the comforter, pulling his Angel closer to his chest. The motion caused them to wake.
“Hmm?” They mumbled sleepily, confused. He smiled with a quiet and soft chuckle as he kissed their cheek. “I’m home Angel, sorry I’m late.” He whispered while close to their ear.
They nodded and turned their body toward them, burrowing into his chest while mumbling to him about how it was fine, and to not worry about it, and how their glad he’s home- along with a few kisses to his chest.
He smirked, laying his head against his pillow as their head rested against his chest. He kissed their hair, taking in their scent.
“God i love you angel..” he whispered, unknowing if they could hear him or not. They smiled faintly, placing a soft kiss on his shoulder, they mumbled it back before laying their head back down on the pillow, still facing their husband.
“You mean everything to me.” He spoke whispered words again, but this time angel really was asleep, but he didn’t mind. He loved telling them the ways he loved them, and how much so.
“So perfect, everything about you.. your eyes, your nose, your mouth, your touch.. the way you speak and how you listen so intently. I love you so so very much Angel..” he whispered while leaning his head down to rest on the pillow beside them, their soft breathing and light snores making him embrace a warm smile.
“I love you Angel.” He spoke once more before shutting his eyes and drifting off next to them.

TW: Nothing, have fun ;P
After your adventures in the Dark World, you and Kris went for a nice walk around the city before going to Kris' house, you didn't have a fixed path where to go so you wandered around the city, Kris grabbed your hand gently as they walked next to you, the wind was blowing softly, moving slightly Kris's bangs showing a little bit his red eyes, little Kris seemed to be thinking about something while they was walking next to you, although you didn't know clearly what was going through them head they still enjoyed them company, in the middle of them way Kris seemed a little tired of so much walking, so you proposed them to go to the small cafeteria to rest, they slowly agreed and both entered the cafeteria, there you decided to buy a milkshake to your cute partner, they was looking at them hands, playing lightly with them black fingerless gloves, you were a little worried about what was going on in them head, but with what happened with the dark world and that they is now part of a prophecy you can understand them being so like this, after a few minutes the chocolate milkshake arrives at the table, Kris looks at you and the milkshake, asking if it was for them, you nod and you can see them smile a little before taking a sip of the milkshake. While they drank them milkshake, you talked to them about how amazing they was in the Dark World and how you admire them bravery in a world completely unknown to you, they smiled and let out a little laugh at your praise, when they had finished drinking them milkshake, you paid for it and both of you finally decided to go to Kris' house, the ride home was short luckily. When you arrived Toriel welcomed you both with a hug and a sweet smile, she also offered you some caramel cake which you quickly nodded along with Kris, she smiled and cut you both a slice of her delicious cake, leaving you both to head to Kris's room, there you sat on them bed while they put the cake plate on them bedside table and went to bed, you giggled a little while you put a piece of cake in your mouth, the enjoyment of the cake taste was interrupted by some little tugs on the sleeve of your sweater, you looked to that direction and saw Kris signaling you to lie down next to them, you looked at them fondly and sweetly told them "Kris, first I finish my cake and then I'll sleep with you, ok?" They saw you and shook them head and again gently pulled the sleeve of your sweater and in a low voice they said "lie down next to me and hold me", you were a little surprised to hear them voice, they was not one of those people who talk a lot, you could even go days without hearing them talk, so you decided to listen to them request, you left the plate on them bedside table, They hugged you back, you felt them breath on your neck, everything was so peaceful and quiet that in a few minutes you were already falling asleep, in your sleep you thought you heard them voice saying "I love you...", you just smiled and sweetly while you were falling asleep you answered "I love you too".
EXTRA:
Toriel noticed that one of the knives from the kitchen was missing, so she went to her Kid Kris' room to see if they had it, but when she opened the door she saw her son cuddled and sleeping next to them 'friend', Toriel smiled before the adorable scene she saw, she went to the bed and covered them with sheets and then took the dishes from the bedside table and turned off the light so the lovebirds could sleep at ease.
