Brady walked through the entrance, probably feeling more excited than his eleven-year-old daughter was. It was no secret that Halloween was his favorite holiday. His house was already fully decked out in preparation for trick-or-treaters with over-the-top decorations. He was proudly wearing his Bilbo Baggins costume, complete with a pipe, a walking stick and over-sized slippers fashioned to look like hairy feet. “I think these slippers are going to get wet,” he said, noting the damp grass beneath them. “So? Take them off.” Belle replied. Brady shrugged. “I tried that last year. I ended up stepping on glass.” The girl rolled her eyes. “Is it my fault you wear the same stupid costume every year?” she shook her head, to which he scoffed. “That’s not true. Two years ago I was Gandalf. And is it my fault you refused to dress as Pippin, so I could be Samwise?” he replied.
The preteen chose not to dignify his ridiculous question with an answer, and instead took interest in another family near by. “Can I go see my friends?” she asked him, clutching his arm while looking at him with pleading eyes. Brady let out a reluctant sigh. “Fine. But meet me at the story telling booth in an hour.” he said, as he would be telling a scary story there later on, as he did every year, on behalf of his book store. “And stay out of trouble. No joining the dark side,” he added, in reference to her ‘Rey’ costume. “Bye, Dad!” she called over his shoulder. Without her company, he felt rather ridiculous in his costume, and although he knew the place would soon be crowded, not many people had arrived. He stepped towards the person nearest to him and looked them up and down. “Cool costume.” he commented with a smirk.
