Harper had decided to come to the bar mostly as she needed a break from routine. Lately she had been doing the exact same thing every day, and she was falling into a rut. So that had resulted in her knowing she needed to do something different today. She walked into the bar without any real plans, which was fine by here. However, Harper was pleased to see Fiona, and sent the woman a soft smile. She was never one to turn down company, especially when she was in a mood like the one she was in tonight. “That sounds like a great plan.” Harper said as she sat down in the chair that Fiona had gestured towards. “How have you been?” She asked, as she hoped the other woman had been doing well.

“Help yourself. We can get some more appies, if you want. They have so many good ones.” she said, pushing the plate closer to the woman. “It definitely beats having to cook.” She added, even though she lived alone, there were many days when simple tasks like laundry and cooking felt impossible after a long day at work. “I’m doing good. Busy with work, though. You would think that things would have slowed down at the spa with the holidays over, but then there are those who have gift cards to use, or have the whole ‘New year, new me’ mentality that only seems to last 2 months, tops.” She chuckled and shook her head before taking a sip of her wine. “Lots of extra cash for me, so I can’t complain too much. How about you, Harper? How was your holiday?” she asked.

Location:  Pit Stop Bar & Grill

Fiona went to the Pit Stop every so often, not for the sports games, which she could care less about, but because they did have a few things on the menu she could eat that were not terrible. Not to mention, she always seemed to run into people she knew, or at least meet interesting people to talk to. She ordered some zucchini sticks and some sparkling wine. She didn’t really celebrate the New Year since she had an early shift the next day, so why not celebrate now? Before her food arrived, she did in fact spot a familiar face near the bar. She had met Harper on the way home one day, and when she found out she was an artist, she wanted to see her work. She did end up buying a print, as she loved having unique local art in her home. She raised a hand, waving to get her attention. “Care to join me in a late New Years celebration?” she asked the woman as she gestured to the empty chair across from her.

Location:  Wildflower Cafe

Since she knew that everyone had been so busy over the holidays, she was in the mood for some social interaction, and some of treats from her favorite vegan-friendly cafe, even if it was a bit out of her way. She had sent a text to her friend Bellamy who she had not seen a few months, hoping she was free to catch up on the weekend. She knew that she was a very talented young artist and Fiona really admired her work. They had hit it off ever since she had bought one of her pieces. Fiona arrived and got in the line up. She was bent over, looking through the glass case of baked treats, trying to make up her mind when she heard the door open. Seeing the younger blonde walk in, she smiled. “Hey, girl. Glad you made it. Maybe you can help me decide what I want with my coffee,” she turned back to the case. “Do I want a brownie, or a lemon bar?”

Maverick nodded his head, as he ran a hand through his hair. “Thankfully, I’d be deeply concerned if she’d went home with someone like that.” He said shrugging his shoulders. Maverick never understood why men had to be dicks to women or people in general, it never really took a lot to be a decent person. “People have told you stuff like that before?”

“No doubt,” the blonde chuckled lightly before sipping her drink. “I would assume she had a enough common sense to walk away and hopefully find a more valuable use of her time.”  She let out a sigh and rolled her eyes. “Never more than once, thankfully, because they learn not to pretty quickly. No girl is impressed by that kind of ‘riveting’ conversation. It’s like sending dick pics. It just comes across as creepy and desperate. I’m sure you know that, though.” she smiled, as he didn’t seem the type to try such a thing. “Are you waiting on a date as well? Or just here for the food?” she inquired, turning slightly, to give him her attention.

“Exactly. Who’s idea was it that a library should be quiet anyways? It’s not a church.” She said before letting out a laugh. “That’s good. I’m glad it’s not a cult.” She shook her head. “I’d like another reading sometime. They’re interesting, that’s for sure.” She commented and took a sip of her coffee. “Oh, no. I’m good there. I can say for sure that I don’t work with either any of my hookups. And while my boss is attractive as hell, he’s taken.” Lennox laughed. “Though, I did hookup with a friend’s cousin once I didn’t know was their cousin until I was invited to a barbecue.” She admitted with a pleased smirk. “It does. It’s actually great. Way better than I thought it was going to be, honestly.”

“Sure, any time. It’s kind of my side gig, but a fun one for sure.” She admitted. “Besides, my grandmother was the crazy witch lady who all the children were afraid of in this town. Even though in reality, she would have done nothing more than invite them onto her porch for tea and her famous banana bread. Someone needs to carry on the legacy.” Fiona added with a smirk. It was true that many superstitious people use to avoid walking near her grandmother’s house because she read cards and dabbled in “magic”, but times had changed. “Ah, damn.” she said scrunching her nose. “That always seems to be the case. But I must say, this whole town is full of attractive people. Not all of them available, but still. It must be the water or something.” She joked. She straighted up, sensing something worth celebrating in Lennox’s response. “Ooh, did you go with someone special?” she smiled teasingly.

“That’s very true,” she laughed, nodding her head in agreement to the words that left Fiona. “I think that would be really sweet.” She told the woman. “Is your family out of state?” She didn’t know much about the other woman, though she hoped she hadn’t asked a question that would make the woman uncomfortable. “I mean, if you want to answer. I know family talk can be,” she paused, “it can be hard.” She had lost her own mother many, many years ago and it still wasn’t easy on the brunette. “I haven’t done that yet. I usually go every year but I didn’t know some of the houses were haunted.” Dalila admitted, “That’s pretty interesting to know though.”

“I don’t really have any family,” Fiona answered honestly. She was aware that her past was somewhat of a downer, but she was an open book. She never shyed away from talking about it, if she was asked. “I was raised by my mom and my grandmother, both have passed on. I have a dad. I haven’t seen him since I was two, but I get the sense he’s still around. Supposedly in New Orleans.” She gave a shrug. She tried not to hold any ill will against the man she didn’t know, but it was hard sometimes. “So, I guess on the bright side, I don’t have that many people to shop for. Just my close friends. and I like to do up some hampers for the homeless shelters.”  she explained, turning to the other as they continued through the crowd, as it occurred to her she didn’t know a lot about her upbringing. “What about you? Are you spending the holidays with family? I just kind of do my own thing.” she shrugged. “Sounds pathetic, I know, but its actually kind of peaceful.”

She nodded. “Exactly. Plus, the library is so quiet. I could never focus in there.” Lennox was a woman of chaos and fun and always needed noise of some kind around her in order to do something. Usually that was music, but almost anything would work. “I guess so, but that was my first reading. I may need a few more before I’m truly converted.” She smiled at Fiona before listening to her and shaking her head. “I don’t have problems there. Its all for fun and on my end, its never awkward. Can’t say the same for them, but they’re not me.” She smirked and took a drink. “I don’t know if I believe in all that. I’ve never actually been in a relationship. I don’t know if I’ll ever settle down. I like just being relaxed about things.” She didn’t know if she would always be that way, but for now, she was. “That’s good. And a little, but nothing too bad. I’ve been checking out all the festival stuff. What about you?”

“That’s true. I mean, I like my peace and quiet, but it shouldn’t have to be enforced.” she said with a shrug. She smiled at the other’s comment. “Hey, I’m not here to convert anyone. It’s not like a cult or something. Although, I must say that once you realize you can find things out based on the stars and planets, and talk to spirits, it’s kind of addicting. I’d be happy to give you another reading, any time.” Fiona knew that some people were open to her beliefs, and some weren’t. She could respect them, either way. She let out a chuckle. “That’s one way to look at it. Unless you find yourself in some cliche movie plot where you find out the person that you just slept with happens to be your new boss, or colleague. Can’t say that’s ever happened in real life, to me.” she smirked giving a shrug. “Yeah, actually. I went there the other night to check out the market with a friend. It certainly brightens things up around here during the winter months.” This year wasn’t particularly cold, but grey and otherwise gloomy.

Lennox wasn’t really one to read books, but she liked the cafe because of the food and watching people. Plus, it was nice to switch things up from the Hilltop every couple days. Today, she went in to get some lunch and she was waiting for it when she saw a familiar face. “Hey.” She grinned and walked over to sit with her. “Well, it has coffee and food so I guess I can usually be found here.” She said and shrugged before sipping on her coffee. “Oh, um…” She thought for a moment about what the predictions were before she nodded. “Yeah. Especially the lovers one. I ended up meeting someone and we hooked up. And I’ve met several others since.” She laughed softly and shrugged. “I’m big into the lovers thing.” She joked. “How are you, though?”

Fiona usually remembered the faces and names of some of the people she did readings for if their reading was a more interesting one. She smiled at Lennox’s comment. “That’s why it’s better than hanging out in a library. At least you’re allowed to eat in here.” she agreed. She  put down her copy of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’ - a classic ghost story which she loved and turned her attention to the woman. “Ah, see? The cards never lie. Good for you, though.” Fiona hadn’t dated anyone for a while, but loved hearing about other people’s love lives, as more than anything, this was what people came to her for, wanting advice. “Well, just keep in mind, this is a small town. It makes for awkward post-coital interactions every where you go. In my experience, anyways.” she chuckled lightly. “I always tell myself I need to slow down and wait for the right one, but they’re taking their sweet time, whoever they are.” she added, before taking a sip of her drink. “I’m good. Laying low these past couple weeks. Have you been busy with the holidays?”

Task # 3 - Wonderland Lights

Harper let out a small chuckle. She could appreciate someone being passionate about that sort of thing. There was a certain excitement that came with getting to be someone else.  “I do prefer to walk places myself as well. For the whole first year I lived here I didn’t even bother to buy a car. But eventually I realized it was going to make life a lot easier, especially during the colder months. I still prefer to walk when I can though.” Harper agreed as she did like to be out in nature as much as she could. She found it to be a lot more inspiring than the inside of a car. There was something about the fresh air that was just a bit magical for her.

The blonde nodded, knowing all to well what she meant. “Yeah. I mean, it’s a small town, so it’s convenient. But at the same time, having a vehicle has it perks, for sure.” she said with a smirk. “I like the winters here, personally. I don’t know how people could live somewhere like California, where the weather never changes.” she said with a shrug looking up at the other woman. “Are you from here, originally?” she asked. It always perked her interest when she came across someone she had not crossed paths with before, having been in town for many years. Most of her life, in fact.
