#facebook parenting

so basically this dad is the epitome of crappy parenting. he says he wants respect but oh my fucking god he just destroyed any respect i might have ever had for him. he let a fucking 15 year old girl get under his skin like that, and let me tell you that i have read many books on parenting teenagers and nowhere in any of them did it say that it's okay to shoot your daughter's fucking laptop with a gun because she made you angry. like seriously that is some fucked up shit and i honestly feel unsafe knowing that this guy is out in the world. goddammit she is a fucking teenager. teenagers do stupid shit all the time. that doesn't mean that you have the right to publicly humiliate her on her facebook wall and then destroy her belongings and tell her to reimburse you for it. that is fucking ridiculous and crazy and if you are solving your problems by shooting them, i honestly never want to be within a 100 foot radius of you because you are fucking terrifying. The calm, sane way of handling this would have been to talk to her about what she posted and tell her why it's wrong. not to react like a madman and destroy her stuff. and on top of that, this video has the potential to ruin her life. yeah, i know you'd probably think that's ridiculous, but goddammit she is a teenage girl. The second somebody says something mean to her, she's goign to become extremely self conscious and remember it for months. this video is nothing but fuel for bullies to torment her with. lastly, your shooting her laptop will probably have absolutely no effect on her behavior. as many studies have shown, punishment is absolutely the worst way to enforce or discourage behavior, especially a punishment as reactive and frankly frightening as thiis one. please please please buy a book and learn how to be an actual parent before you go shooting anything else. for fuck's sake, if i could solve all of my problems by shooting them then this world would have a much lower population. but I DONT because shooting stuff is not a sane or healthy method of problem solving. and honestly, what lesson were you trying to teach her? to solve her problems with violence? that when she gets a job and her coworkers say something bad about her, to go unload her gun into their personal items? yeah, great.

wow hope ur proud of yourself bro. yeah, it wasn't okay for her to post that on the internet. but it's 10x less okay for you to post THIS. youre a shit parent and i sincerely hope you solve whatever issues you are facing with yourself because you obviously don't know how to be a calm and rational human being. i suggest therapy but whatevs.

So I'll just post it on Tumblr with all of the rest of my dirty secrets.

So, today I was casually scrolling through Facebook. I usually hate going on there because it's a bunch of parents in my town complaining about their work shifts and blah blah blah. Well, anyways, I scroll down and I see a post from my step-mother. Low and behold, she's complaining about her oldest daughter. She's thirteen years old and she does have a bit of an attitude. 

Anyways, my step-mom is complaining about her daughter on a social networking site, talking about the punishments she gives her daughter and all of these things. Then I see fifteen comments agreeing with her. 

First of all, personal posts like that should not be on Facebook. Not only are they humiliating for subject, but they are also extremely negative. Seeing my step-mother calling her daughter, "annoying", "rude" and "lazy" numerous times throughout her conversations does not make me respect her. 

Second of all, her daughter can see her posts. Even if she doesn't have a Facebook, she could still see it through her friends Facebook pages and things like that. Nothing is private on the internet. 

The thing is, my step-mother is not the only parent who does this! Other parents constantly rag on their children through Facebook. Does this make them respect you? No. Does it embarrass them? Yes. Posting things on the internet about your family life is not a way to mend your relationships. If you have a problem with a family member, say it to their face. Discuss why you're upset. 

The funny thing is, older generations often talk about how the internet is the end of us. I might be a little biased, but it seems like our generation knows how to handle the internet a lot better than the generation before us.
