still not thrilled with the jane/j-borg stuff. i mean today, it wasn’t unbearable, but definitely still not my cup of tea.

im interested in the garcia family dynamic. i have a couple of theories on how the dynamic came to be, but am having trouble fleshing them out atm. but it’s odd to me the warden is so adversed to music, but not sports. like, in terms of carer prospects, they’re both hard industries to break into (without connections), but once you get that momentum, you can become very successful. maybe it’s a personal thing he takes out on javi? well, this won’t be the last time this dynamic is focused on.

has power rangers ever done a plot where a parent/child are at adversity with each other? i know lightspeed, but that was because of brainwashing. i guess devon in beast morphers it the closest, but this one feels different. idk

i have mixed feelings on the main plot. i like it because i can relate a lot to it, but the climax was weak. 

i finally realized my problem with this episode after reading this tweet : javi never opens up. zayto, ollie, and amelia find out the problem through a video, which kind of negates the point of the episode. we know javi is more quiet and reserved, and (from personal experience), opening up is a struggle (for a variety of reasons, usually situational). the thing is, the flaw of his character was never challenged as he didn’t have to confront his problem, the video did it for him. instead of having the scene of javi after izzy gets hurt, i think it should’ve been him actually opening up instead.

speaking of that scene after izzy got hurt, when i first saw it in the teaser, i was kind of upset because i thought it would take the focus away from javi. i think it actually worked well, but i don’t think it was necessary (at least for this episode). i know they are trying to establish that there is tension between javi and his dad, but i think that has been established enough up to this point, that the scene could’ve been replaced with something more relevant to this episode (like javi actually opening up to zayto, ollie, and amelia). it’s not like it was out of place or anything, but this scene is pretty “generic” in that it could’ve been placed in another episode (where relevant) and still make sense. the only thing that it added was javi pushing away the team, which is important to the plot, but has been established already. 

edit : i think this episode was better at balancing all the characters. of course the episode was javi centric, but the others were still actively present. 

i think that’s it. i think im upset this episode didn’t hit because i was really looking forward to it, and it wasn’t what i expected. that’s kind of my problem, i guess. anyway, i would like to conclude with this tweet i found that isn’t mine

i loved this episode, i thought everything flowed smoothly and nothing really felt disconnected. i also liked how everything feels more connected, as in none of the “main” characters are ‘one offs’. like the warden is the siblings dad, but also an adversary to amelia, or how both of the siblings were introduced doing something the rangers were doing. everything kind of come full circle (i don’t know if i explained that good)

i love how they showcased javi and izzy’s personalities, especially showing that izzy is the more outgoing “talkative” one, while javi is the quieter one

im still not 100% on jane/j-borg. they’re not as obnoxious as comedy duos in the past, but it’s never really funny (imo). i would say they are an improvement to the archetype in that what they’re doing doesn’t feel disconnecting to the main plot (reporting the news), but still not for me. i feel like this season doesn’t really need one, but at least they don’t really take you out of the story.

i like the foreshadowing for episode seven. also, has it been that long since keytars have be relevant that they need to explain it to us (idk, it seems pretty self explanatory, but whatever, it was a nice line.

the skirt rip seemed easier than it should have been. like if it was that easy im surprised a skirt never just fell off in the middle of battle. anyway queen sh!t

and not to get into skirt discourse, and maybe this is because this is the first series im actively ‘interacting’ with the pr fandom live, but a lot of female rangers (particularly yellow rangers) have been gender-bent/had no skirt so why is it such a big deal if izzy doesn’t? is it the color? like i don’t really understand what the logic is.

im really loving all the rangers this season (that’s it lol)

(to get the one “negative” out of the way) it was strange hearing izzy without tessa’s accent. im not surprised they didn’t keep it, but i love her accent so much

the fact that javi just has a harmonica, legend

also, javi must be strong as hell if he broke that orb since the freaking broom didn’t

i’m interested to see how it all comes together since in the promotional phots, javi is shown to be at the museum that had the orb, then in this, he was in the forest with it. like (ik he didn’t), but did he steal it?

also, how does izzy get with the others, where did that broom come from?

y’know, really, where did this orb come from in the first place? why is it at some unsuspecting museum and not under some government lock and key?

i like how they integrated some of their character traits

what is up with power rangers and making overly saturated thumbnails?

i definitely think tessa’s acting was better in this scene over the other. i think part of that was the sound. like in pr sometimes it sound’s “dubbed” even when they’re not in the suit. i noticed it a lot in ninja steel, and it kind of sounded like that in the other preview clip. maybe it’s my computer, idk?

i really like the locations of this season. i haven’t finished it, but i feel like the locations (mainly the outside ones) in beast morphers were bland, or “empty” i guess (which i now realize might be due to covid). the sets this season have more life to them, and it feels like it’s an actual town.

again, why is this orb in a museum?

it’s always the news, like who exactly is “the news” like we have the power rangers equivalent to buzzfeed, where’s the power rangers equiv. to cnbc?

so it’s established warden doesn’t approve that javi likes to play music, and so he has to go to some secret place to play. my question is, how tf does he hide all these instruments from his dad? like a harmonica is pretty small, but in episode 7 he’s gonna whip out a keytar (which i belive is only slightly smaller than a guitar).

cool episode, kind of wish it was a two parter so the plot of the nexus prism could actually be more than ‘oh it’s here, but we don’t know why,’ although i guess it’s function had more to do with the morphin masters thing. i thought the episode was paced fine and everything, i just like mick lol.

i forgot if this was established, but does void knights ending reveal mean that he’s a human (or humanoid)? i actually really like this twist where instead of overall world domination and/or destruction, void knight is trying to save someone he seems to care about a lot. like since the beginning, void knight’s motivations have been to get the sporix (for what was never stated), not necessarily ‘destroy the world’ as most other villains. interesting...

also, if they are ever awakened, will they be his partner in crime, or will void knight stop being evil? it seems like void knight really cares about them, so i’m thinking the latter. although that means we’d have a mid season villain switch so idk.

i wonder how void knight became evil because in episode one, his sword worked with all the rangers tech, so there has to be some connection.

alright, i watched the ninja steel finale + charistmas episode and hayley said ‘im so glad we’re still rangers, which means mick still has his powers, the ninja steel rangers all have their powers, why did we not get a crossover???? (i know why, i just really want javi and levi to have a song together)

i like how javi and amelia got some fun character moments today. besides their dedicated focus episodes, they’ve mostly been in the background.

will the nexus prism return this season?

i watched the episode twice and on my second watch, realized the dog monster had three mouths.

i really liked the humor this episode.
