People have a lot more of the unknown than the known in their minds. The unknown is great; it's like the darkness. Nobody made that. It just happens.

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real: Nature.com
I'm a bit frightened for the time when someone less ethical than the person that did this decides to repeat the experiment but leave out the part where they come in later and announce that it was fake and people wind up diagnosed with the fake condition and all kinds of wacky hi jinks ensues.

Your Feed Is the Product of a Stealth Marketing Campaign
What if every viral song, movie, meme, influencer, and celebrity drama in recent memory was the result of a stealth marketing campaign?
“We promoted music for all the major record labels,” says Lim, 29, who lives in San Francisco. “We worked with a top-five celebrity I can’t name. We got 40 million views for an artist with just a hundred thousand followers.” Floodify’s services were in demand in politics, too.
How far we have progressed since William Gibson told us in Pattern Recognition (2003) about "friendly beautiful people" hanging out in bars to connect with strangers to chat up their patron's products!

-Still Life Tapestry (Study)
ok, so, just to recap, story after story now surfaces where, when pressed as to WHY they invoked LLMs to ruin their career, the answer is invariably "To save time on a tight deadline" ie strictly a matter of PERSONAL convenience, and "fuck you and your planet, I'll get yelled at if I'm late!"

Gunhed (1989)
My favourite thing in Gunhed is the AI in their gear. They ask for a prediction, they get something like, "There are 12,467 possibilites." When pressed for "the most likely" the machines are silent, but their Gunhed does add two examples where the Brooklyn Dodgers won against overwhelming odds 😊
Is Hosting the FIFA World Cup Worth It? A Tyee Debate
Two Tyee senior editors stake positions on opposite sides of the pitch.
The World Cup’s appeal — especially the sheer sporting passion — is wildly outweighed by its bloated, oppressive current model.
the reality is that this is a party for the elite, with everyone else looking on from blocked city streets.
And picking up the tab for rich people’s fun.
