6. What were they like at school? Did they enjoy it? Did they finish? What level of higher education did they reach? What subjects did they enjoy?
cleo ā she has a complicated relationship to school. she went from not really being a fan to HATING it. she hated that they forced her to sit still and wear shoes and introduced social expectations and strata that made no sense. but, after leaving watcherās eye, it was also outside the house. there were definitely more eyes on her at school, but at least they were Different eyes. she did the bare minimum to get by academically (sometimes not even that), and left for the monastery before she finished high school.
scratch ā she loved school. she didnāt have a lot of friends past acquaintances from group projects, but she had her dad at home, and he was her best friend. she did really well and was definitely the teacherās pet, except some teachers became exasperated at all the questions she would ask past basic curriculum. her favorite subjects were science and tech, and drank up any history of selto. she went to uni and ended up in a research lab studying how to make tech that communicates across the void.
euan ā he didnāt really get a chance to go to school. he loved school in scotland, but when is parents died on the crossing to the US, he was suddenly fifteen with a baby sister to support. he started working at the docks and barely made much more than what he needed to survive, and put the rest towards his sisterās education ā and she got the best, because itās what he wanted for himself. he did manage to learn passable french and spanish over the years just by talking to sailors passing through, and loves the nearby history museums (he is very into egyptology).
16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?
cleo ā she doesnāt really collect anything to keep. she collects herbs to use in medicines and tinctures, and bugs to observe for a little while, but they have short lives and pass on quickly. The only things she keeps are pretty insect wings and carapaces and animal bones. The tiniest bones she strung into a chain for her glasses.
scratch ā she collects so many rocks. so many that it became part of her brotherās warlock pact. theyāre pretty, but to her itās about knowing where youāre from and where youāve been and having something to hold in her hands. mostly she just keeps them in her many pockets, uses them as paperweights, and puts them down in random places to forget and find later. she also collects craft supplies and weird things she just finds around and thinks could be repurposed.
euan ā he buys himself a little souvenir trinket every time he goes to the museum and safely tucks them away in the locked box where he keeps his shotgun. but he always carries the most recent around with him. heās currently carrying a little figurine of a scarab.
26. How do they act when theyāre happy? Do they sing? Dance? Hum? Or do they hide their emotions?
cleo ā it can be hard to tell apart cleo's "something's wrong" quiet from her happy quiet if you don't know what you're looking for. her happy quiet is dynamic. she has a hard time sitting and standing still, and when she's happy, she's not thinking about tamping that down and lets herself move the way her instincts tell her to.
scratch ā she's very tactile -- she will hang off of people and talk nonstop. her words come quickly and she talks with her hands. she wants everyone to be as happy as she is and will drag anyone around her (kicking and screaming) into a good mood with her.
euan ā he gets bouncy, which has probably contributed to the stiffness in his old, creaky knees. he's usually fairly stoic, so the almost frenetic energy when excited can be a surprising change. he also whistles -- he picked up working songs at the docks that get stuck in his head and he won't sing without other voices to disguise his, but he can whistle them just fine.
44. What is their favorite season? Type of weather? Are they good in the cold or the heat? What weather do they complain in the most?
cleo ā her favorite season is autumn, when the chilly breezes come through after a hot summer, when the leaves in her forest once again start to fall to the ground and she can build a warming, smokeless fire beneath her tree. there's something comforting in the decay. also, it means that she can wear her long sleeves and gloves and not feel like she's melting. she hates the heat, but she will stubbornly not complain until she's more sweat than person.
scratch ā there's something she can find to like about every season, but scratch really loves spring. she loves the way it changes the world around her, the reminder that life endures, and she loves the storms that come in fast and disappear just as quickly -- the chaos of the thunder and lightning feels like an old friend coming through. post-campaign, she may not fully understand deities and worship, but she always takes a moment to stand out in the rain or by the window with a mug of tea and whisper a greeting to kord. later, she would come to also love summers, forcing her family to come join her for barbecues in the back yard.
euan ā he just really loves summer. he hates bundling up in winter -- when he was younger, he never knew what layers made sense for the physical activity he'd be doing at the docks, and now, the cold make his creaky knees even more stiff. summer reminds him of romance and flings and holding the first (and last) hand that really mattered.
