This was inspired by Dick in Investigations (idk if 1 or 2) saying he had set up the chess table so they could play sometime,, have I played investigations and know what the hell is happening for Miles' table be knocked over? No. Does that stop me from my gumworth agenda? Also no. Happy early relationship gumworth friday!!!!!
— I can't believe! They even knocked over your fancy chess table, sir! — Dick lamented, his shoulders slumping. — I had set it up all nicely thinking we could play sometime!
Miles looked up from his Steel Samurai action figure, placing his hand over his pounding heart.
— I didn’t think you knew how to play chess, Detective.
— Ah… Well, — he put his hands in his pockets, a smile growing on his face. — Know know I still know very little, I’m not a pro like you yet. But I learned a little while you were away, y'know…
He swallowed hard, looking away.
— I I thought we could play together once in a while, y'know, on one of those slow days. We only see each other at work… Andandand of course you deserve a chess partner too, of course! Even if you’ll probably have to teach me everything again, hahah…
Miles’ lips curved slightly upwards, as if involuntarily, igniting a spark of hope for the detective.
— We never have a ‘slow day,’ Detective, you know.
— Yeah… Yeah, I know.
— But I suppose I can make some exceptions for when we have… exceptionally easy cases. — He turned his back to Dick, crossing his arms. — It's been a long time since I played a decent game, after all.
— Wow, sir! Boy am I glad—
— And… — He glanced over his shoulder, uncertain, but then looked ahead again. — I think you'll be happy to know I learned to play soccer during my time away.
— Soccer?! You learned to play soccer?!
— Just the basics. I'm still not… "a pro" like you. — Miles moved closer to another fallen object, away from Gumshoe, so his voice wouldn't sound anything other than monotonous. — But I imagine we could play sometimes on the weekends…
Even though he tried to run away from the warm brown eyes, he turned to them once more.
— This way we can see each other again outside of work… I-if that's what you want.
— Of course I want it, sir! — He laughed, positioning himself beside him. — And miss the opportunity to see you juggling a ball? Never!
