Wayang is an Indonesian word for theatre (literally "shadow"). When the term is used to refer to kinds of puppet theatre, sometimes the puppet itself is referred to as wayang. Performances of shadow puppet theatre are accompanied by gamelan in Java, and by "gender wayang" in Bali.
The gambus is a Malaysian instrument traditionally carved out of a tree trunk. Because of the construction of the instrument the apperance of the gambus varies widely.
A kecak example from the 1993 movie Baraka. The kecak, also known as the Ramayana Monkey Chant, the piece, performed by a circle of 150 or more performers wearing checked cloth around their waists, percussively chanting "cak" and throwing up their arms, depicts a battle from the Ramayana where the monkey-like Vanara helped Prince Rama fight the evil King Ravana.

Korea has a beautiful zither called the gayageum that was adapted from the Chinese zither. Both the Chinese and Korean zithers are played in a sitting position and are used extensively in tradition folk music.
The sarangi is a short necked, bowed chordophone from India. It is said to resemble the human voice, is difficult to master and is used widely in Indian classical music. The word sarangi is derived from two Hindi words: sau (meaning "hundred") and rang (meaning "colour"). (thanks wiki!)
